
25 Apr Women’s futsal returns after two-year hiatus with 34 Week 1 goals
[April 25, 2025 – Harmon, Guam] The GFA Women’s Futsal League returned after a two-year hiatus with 34 goals scored in four Week 1 matches at the Astumbo Gym.
The Bank of Guam Strykers FC opened the new 2025 season with a 12-0 shutout over Tumon FC University of Guam Tuesday evening led by Sarah Benavente’s five goals. Teammates Ryley Munoz, Analea Meno, and Hinengi San Nicolas each scored twice for the winning team and teammate Richelle Ragadio scored once.
In Tuesday’s late match, Guam Shipyard narrowly defeated Sidekick SC 3-2. Maya Iriarte led all scorers with a pair of goals for the winning team and teammate Demie Rose Brennan scored once. Jenna Young and Janiko Gogue scored for Sidekick SC.
In Thursday’s matches, Tumon Typhoons FC managed to hold off Quality Distributors 2-1 with both goals from Carla Rios. Reme Daugherty scored Quality’s lone goal.
The largest victory in Week 1 was recorded by the NAPA Rovers FC in its 14-0 win over Southern Cobras SC. Yae Kawauchi led all scorers with a double hat trick and teammate Marlena Connelley finished with a hat trick. Monica Marquez, India Sheppard, Cassandra Kido, Elisa Balbuena, and Cadance Mansapit each scored once in the win.
Matches continue Apr. 29 at 7 p.m. featuring Tumon FC University of Guam playing against Guam Shipyard at Astumbo Gym followed by Sidekick SC against Southern Cobras SC. The remaining four teams in the league continue play May 1 with NAPA Rovers FC against Quality Distributors at 7 p.m. followed by Tumon Typhoons FC’s fixture against Bank of Guam Strykers FC.
