Wings Red Stay Perfect in Minetgot Cup SP17 U18 Division

[March 21, 2017 – Harmon, Guam] – Wings Red staved off a comeback by Quality Distributors to win 3-2 and stay perfect through Week 4 of the Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League U18 division Monday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

After taking a commanding 3-0 lead with just 10 minute left to play, Quality got on board three minutes later with an Eddie Huang penalty kick. Four minutes later, a goal from Won Jae Ro put his team within one, but time expired for any additional scores in the contest. Devan Mendiola scored twice for Wings Red, including the eventual game-winner, and teammate Derek Okuhama also scored in the win.

In Monday evening’s other U18 match, defending champions Bank of Guam Strykers (3-1) edged Wings Black 1-0 with a goal from Clayton Mitchell.

In the U15 division played Saturday, the ASC Trust Islanders remain undefeated and in the top spot of division standings with a 2-1 victory over Community First/Days Inn Dededo Soccer Club. Mackey Rasmussen and Jonathan Sevilla scored once each for the Islanders and Patrick Haimin scored for Dededo.

Wings Red bounced back from a Week 3 loss to the Islanders with a 7-0 win over the Bank of Guam Strykers. Edward Cho led his team with a hat trick and teammates Mark Iseke, Marcus Del Rosario, Cayden George, and Tayler Bonner scored one each.

The Tigers, the other team in the U15 division, played a friendly match against the Junior Masakåda, Guam women’s U15 national team, in Week 4. The Junior Masakåda is preparing for the upcoming EAFF U15 Girls Championship, set to be played in Shanghai, China, P.R. next month.

In the U13 division played Saturday, Wings Red managed to hold on to the No. 1 spot in division standings following a 1-1 draw with the Guam Shipyard Wolverines. Justin Joseph scored for Wings Red and Brody Vest scored for Wolverines.

In other U13 division matches, No. 2 Islanders defeated Dededo 8-0 with a hat trick by Mason Sanchez and one goal each from Ethan Sablan, Noah Medler, Jason Palomares, and Daniel Glasscock. The Islanders’ other goal came on a Dededo own goal.

Wings Black picked up their second win of the season with a 3-2 edge over the Strykers. Riku Meyar scored twice for the winning team and teammate Gavin Baker also scored. Jacob Reyes and Alfred Thomas scored for the Strykers.

The Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League continues Thursday with one U18 division match between Wings Red and Wings Black kicking off at 6:30 p.m. The U13 and U15 division continues Saturday.
