27 Aug Wings FC, Rovers FC to play for 2024 Budweiser G-League crown
[August 26, 2024 – Harmon, Guam] Wings FC will take on NAPA Rovers FC in the battle of undefeated teams for the inaugural crown of the newly branded Budweiser G-League in the league’s championship match set to kick off at 4 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.
In the first of two semifinal matches on Aug. 25, Wings FC defeated Quality Distributors FC 6-1 with two goals from Beau Perez and one each from Taiyo Kanekatsu, Yaw Boateng, Justin Li, and Yvan Tcheugoue. Alfredo Sierra scored Quality’s lone goal.
In the next match, NAPA Rovers FC defeated Bank of Guam Strykers FC 9-0 with two goals from Mark Chargualaf and one each from Luciano Jameson, Caleb Elwell, Justin Cruz, Keyth Ordonez, Juan Carlos Mungaray, Roy Jin, and Giacomo Bustamante.
Both the Wings FC and NAPA Rovers FC finished the regular season with an identical 12-0 record. Wings FC boasts the league’s top number of goals scored with 158 in 12 matches, for an average of over 13 goals per match and a league-best +149 goal difference. NAPA Rovers FC has the slight edge in fewer goals allowed, with only eight in 12 matches.
Before the 4 p.m. championship match, Quality Distributors and Bank of Guam Strykers FC will play for third place.
An awards ceremony will take place following the championship match for the top three teams. Individual awards also will be presented to Wings FC’s Yvan Tcheugoue, the league’s Golden Boot winner with 37 goals. NAPA Rovers FC’s Saena San Nicolas will be presented with the league’s Golden Glove award as the league’s top goalkeeper.
