09 Sep Wings FC capture 2024 Budweiser G-League crown
[September 8, 2024 – Harmon, Guam] Wings FC captured the inaugural Budweiser G League 2024 season title after a 3-2 win over NAPA Rovers FC Sunday afternoon in the league’s championship match at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.
Simeon Packer, Yaw Boateng, and Yvan Tcheugoue each scored once in the win. Keyth Ordonez and Michael Castaneda scored for the Rovers.
The 2024 season title is the Wings’ second-straight of Guam’s top flight men’s football league. The team secured the 2023 Budweiser Soccer League title last year before the league was re-branded to the Budweiser G League.
Quality Distributors FC finished the 2024 season in third place after defeating the Bank of Guam Strykers FC 4-2 in a penalty kick shootout.
With just over six minutes left in regular time, Quality Distributors’ Angelo Auayan and Alfredo Sierra managed to level the match at 6-all in the 90th and 90+2 minute, respectively, before time ran out.
Sierra led Quality with two goals and teammates Brandon Auayan, Takayuki Kobayashi, and Angelo Auayan also scored. Quality’s other goal came on a Strykers own goal in the 68th minute.
The Strykers’ Colin Urquilla led all scorers with a hat trick and teammate Samuel Stenson scored twice. Ian Mariano scored the Strykers’ other goal.
Following the matches, Wings FC were awarded the league’s Champions trophy and gold medals in a short awards presentation event. The Rovers received the league’s second-place trophy and silver medals, and Quality received the league’s third-place trophy. Also receiving trophies were Yvan Tcheugoue and Saena San Nicolas, the league’s Golden Boot and Golden Glove winners, respectively.
