Week 3 Women’s Soccer Features Trio of Shutouts

A trio of shutouts was featured in Week 3 action of the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League Fall season at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Paintco Lady Strykers picked up their first win of the season in Week 3, edging Quality Distributors 2-0.

Both teams matched up in the opening half, going scoreless for close to 40 minutes. The Lady Strykers had a handful of opportunities, including three corner kicks and three shots on goal in the first 30 minutes before Christina Duenas finally broke the scoring drought with a shot in the 38th minute.

Quality was on a determined search for the equalizer in the deciding half, playing with better ball control and team movement, however Strykers keeper Gesualda Gonzalez managed to stop the opposing team’s best chances, including one-on-ones with April Talledo and Tianna Sakaba.

With about ten minutes left in the contest, the Lady Strykers’ Dausha Magalhaes gave her team some breathing room with goal from the top of the penalty box that sailed over the outstretched arms of Quality keeper Chyna Ramirez for the final score.

In other matches, the Doosan Lady Crushers and the Lady Rovers continue as the only undefeated teams in the league.

After Regina Shiroma saved Guam Shipyard from defeat in Week 2 with the equalizer against the Lady Rovers, Shipyard suffered its first loss to the Lady Crushers, 12-0.

The Lady Crushers’ Skyylerblu Johnson took over the league’s Golden Boot race with a five-goal performance over Shipyard, amounting to 10 goals in three matches and edging teammate Colleen Naden, who had led through two weeks. In the match against Shipyard, Naden contributed a hat trick for a nine-goal tally in three matches. Other goal scorers against Shipyard were Simie Willter with two and teammates Maria Abbey Iriarte and Caylani Estoy each with one.
