Triple J Youth League opens 2024 Spring season with 129 teams

[February 18, 2024 – Harmon, Guam] Close to 1,500 players from 129 teams converged at the Guam Football Association National Training Center Saturday for opening weekend of the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth League Spring 2024 season.

In addition to players, about a dozen new referees began their officiating journey in the U8 Division, and close to a couple dozen newly certified youth coaches also featured on opening day.

“The start of the youth league is always an exciting time for our young athletes, as they get to play football with their friends and represent their clubs,” said Samuel San Gil, GFA Head of Football Events. “It’s also great to see new referees get their start on the pitch, as well as more coaches with their teams.

“For over ten years, the league has been supported by Triple J Auto Group, and we are grateful for their partnership for our top league in terms of participation,” San Gil added.

In the Spring 2024 season, the U10 Division features the most teams with 34, followed by the U8 Division with 32. A total of 26 teams play in the U6 Division and 20 in the U12 Division. In the U15 Boys Division, 11 teams are registered to compete. Six teams comprise the U15 Girls Division. Both the U15 Boys and U15 Girls Divisions feature full 11-a-side matches.

Over 20 new referees recently completed the GFA Introductory Referees Course earlier in the month, with about half of them receiving assignments on opening weekend and the other half to receive assignments in Week 2. The course is part of a larger youth referee development program supported in great part by Japan Football Association.

The league continues on Saturdays through to Apr. 20, the scheduled date of the Spring 2024 Jamboree.
