Triple J Youth League Now Features U12 All-girls Division

[September 25, 2016 – Harmon, Guam] – The new all-girls U12 division of the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League is a welcome addition for the six teams that play weekly at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

“I like the new all-girls division in the youth league,” said Anita Manglona of the Guam Shipyard Wolverines Pink team. “I feel that our matches are more competitive. We’re able to get to know our teammates better and work as a team during matches, not having to worry about the boys. Also, my teammates and I also get more playing time.”

Manglona, a 11-year-old student at Inarajan Middle School, played with the club’s co-ed team in the Spring season and said that comparing the two experiences, she prefers playing in the all-girls division.

The division, which began this season, features three matches each Saturday. The teams competing are ASC Trust Islanders Rosa, Bombers SC Pink, Community First/Dededo Soccer Club Pink, Sidekick SC Pink, Tsunami Waves, and Guam Shipyard Wolverines Pink.

Manglona and her teammates joined over 1,500 other players in the Week 2 of the youth league played Saturday at GFA. The U17 division of the league also officially kicked off in Week 2 of the league.

In the Aloha Maid Youth Minetgot Cup Elite League also played Saturday, Wings Red leads the U17 division as the lone undefeated team with a 1-1 draw with the Bank of Guam Strykers, currently No. 2 in league standings. Noah Duenas scored for Wings Red and Joshua Calvo scored for the Strykers.

In the other U17 division match, Quality Distributors defeated Wings Black 7-1 with three goals from Samuel Larkin and one each from Camden Camacho, Kobe Sotelo, Eddie Huang, and William Zheng. Kyle Halehale scored Wing Black’s lone goal.

In the U14 division, the Wings continue undefeated with a victory over the Wolverines 12-1 with five goals from Edward Cho, two each from Sho Meyar and Taiga Simon and one apiece from Kai Suzuki, Mark Iseke, and Hayden Shedd. Ryan Lee scored for the Wolverines. The Tigers also remain undefeated with a 6-0 win over Dededo. James Lee finished with four goals for the Tigers and teammates Micah Hennegan and Kainoa Ferguson also scored.

In the U12 division, the Islanders defeated the Strykers 7-0 with three goals each from EJ Sablan and Jadyn Palomares. Riley Rama also scored for the Islanders. The Wings and Wolverines played to a 1-1 draw in the first half, but the Wings came back in the second half to win 7-1. Nainoa Norton finished with a hat trick for the Wings and teammate Justin Joseph scored twice. Kyle Takano and Andrew Choi also scored for the Wings. James Squire scored the first goal of the match for the Wolverines.

The Minetgot Cup Elite League continues Tuesday with a pair of U17 division matches: Wings Red against Wings Black and Quality Distributors taking on the Strykers – both at 7 p.m. at GFA.
