Team Magahaga repeats as Girls HS All-Star champions

[May 25, 2017 – Harmon, Guam] Team Magahaga makes it two-for-two in the GFA Girls High School All-Star Invitational, repeating as champions with a 5-3 victory over Team Metgot in the event’s second-annual edition Wednesday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Team Metgot opened scoring for both teams after Skyylerblu Johnson finished a cross from teammate Randi Jo Paulino in the 29th minute. Not to be outdone before the half, Team Magahaga, which featured IIAAG Girls High School Soccer League All-Island First Team MVP Colleen Naden, as well as the league’s championship match MVP Brianne Leon Guerrero, leveled the match right before the halftime whistle on a Naden free kick.

The see-saw battle continued in the deciding half, with Metgot’s Chloe Miranda’s strike off a long pass from teammate Caylani Estoy putting her team ahead of the defending champions for the second time in the match. Naden once again scored the equalizer in the 52nd minute, taking a through pass from Hannah Cruz for her shot.

Johnson later regained the lead for Metgot three minutes later, but it was all Magahaga for the remainder of the match. Joanna Opolentisima leveled the match a third time after getting the last touch on the ball before colliding with Metgot goalkeeper Anisa Topsana just outside the goal box. Logyn Lallatin scored the eventual game winner from the right side in the 68th minute and Leon Guerrero tacked on a goal of her own in the 73rd minute.

Team Magahaga was coached by Ross Awa and Katie Mills and Team Metgot was coached by Simie Willter and Cara Walsh.

Team Magahaga also won the event’s inaugural match last year, winning in a penalty kick shootout.
