Shipyard on Top of BSL Premier Division After 3 Weeks

[October 26, 2016 – Harmon, Guam] – Guam Shipyard remains as the lone undefeated team in the Budweiser Soccer League Premier Division after three weeks of play in the latest statistics report released by the Guam Football Association Men’s Committee.

Following its 4-2 victory against defending champion NAPA Rovers in Week 2, Shipyard extended its win streak and goal differential with a 17-2 win over division newcomers Haya United Saturday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Shipyard’s Mark Chargualaf led all scorers with five goals in his team’s match against Haya United and teammate Min Sung Choi, last season’s Golden Boot winner, scored four in the contest.

Donald Weakley and Kenneth Karosich each scored twice in the win and teammates Christopher Santos, Jonathon Cleary, and Anthony Babauta also scored. Shipyard’s other goal came on a Haya United own goal. Seth Surber and GianCarlo Abril scored for Haya United.

The NAPA Rovers bounced back from its Week 2 loss and defeated Quality Distributors 5-1 with two goals each from Ian Mariano and Ashton Surber. Eddie Lee Lorenzo also scored for the Rovers. Diego Cardona scored Quality’s lone goal.

In Week 2 matches, Choi finished with a hat trick for Shipyard against the Rovers and Chargualaf chipped in a goal in the final tally. Mariano and Surber scored for the Rovers.

The Bank of Guam Strykers overcame a 3-1 deficit in the first half to edge Quality Distributors 6-5 at the final whistle. Jacques Odi and Ricky Katsumata each scored twice for the Strykers and teammates Thomas Park and Scott Spindel also scored. Yaw Antwi-Agyei and Jeremy Boldt each scored twice for Quality and teammate Takefumi Inoue also scored.

Choi and Mariano currently lead the Golden Boot race with seven goals each through Week 3 matches, followed by Chargualaf with six goals.

BSL Premier Division matches continue Saturday before the teams take a two-week break for the EAFF E-1 Football Championship Round 2. The Guam-based players called up to the Matao, Guam men’s national team, will be traveling to Hong Kong Nov. 2 for the EAFF tournament.

Saturday’s matches will pit Quality Distributors and Guam Shipyard at 7 p.m. at GFA, followed by Haya United taking on the Bank of Guam Strykers at 9 p.m. The Quality-Shipyard fixture will be available via Internet Live Stream. A link to watch the match online will be provided before kick off across GFA’s social media platforms (@GuamFootball).
