[March 20, 2015 – Harmon, Guam] The Simon Sanchez High School Sharks showed their high cards early, winning the championship match of the Guam Football Association 4th Annual Challenge Cup Girls High School Soccer Preseason Tournament at the GFA National Training Center Thursday.

The Sharks defeated the Harvest Christian Academy Eagles 3-0 in the tournament’s final, with two goals from Skyylerblu Johnson and one from Ha’ane Taitano. In an awards ceremony following the championship match, the Sharks were presented the championship trophy by GFA Executive Committee member Tina Esteves and the Eagles received the tournament’s runner-up trophy. The Guam High School Panthers earned the consolation bracket winners trophy.

Other schools that competed in the preseason tournament are the Academy of Our Lady of Guam Cougars, the John F. Kennedy High School Islanders, the George Washington High School Geckos, the St. John’s School Knights, the St. Paul Christian School Warriors, and the Southern High School Dolphins.

Simon Sanchez High School is the fourth team to win the tournament in as many years. Harvest Christian Academy has the most finals appearances with three in four years, with one championship. Previous championship match results, beginning from the inaugural tournament in 2012 are:

2012 – Harvest Christian Academy Eagles defeat Okkodo High School Bulldogs 1-0 (Goal by Felicia Alumbaugh)

2013 – Notre Dame High School Royals defeat Harvest Christian Academy Eagles 1-0 (Goal by Demi-Rae Shimizu)

2014 – George Washington High School Geckos defeat Academy of Our Lady of Guam Cougars 1-0 (Goal by Ana Aguon)

2015 – Simon Sanchez High School Sharks defeat Harvest Christian Academy Eagles 3-0 (Goals by Skyylerblu Johnson (2), Ha’ane Taitano)
