06 Oct Seven vying for five GFA Executive Committee seats in 2023 GFA Election
The seven candidates confirmed by the independent GFA Electoral Committee are Fred Alig II, Kelley Barnhart, Joaquin Cook, Jason Cunliffe, Duane Pahl, Gian Tenorio, and Peter Toves. Alig, Barnhart, Pahl, and Tenorio are running for re-election.
“I’d like to thank all candidates who have expressed their interest and have been confirmed for the Executive Committee member election in this year’s GFA Congress,” said Joe Cepeda, GFA General Secretary. “I commend their willingness to dedicate their time and energy for the advancement of football in Guam, both domestically and internationally; it takes a great deal of commitment as an Executive Committee member, which is a non-paid, volunteer-based position that comes with a great responsibility to all Guam football stakeholders.
“Additionally, I’d like to thank Joe Roberto for his four years of service on the Executive Committee beginning in 2019 and his work with the GFA Referees Committee, as he opted to not run for re-election this year,” Cepeda added.
The entire process of the election will be conducted by the GFA Electoral Committee, including counting all ballots, making decisions regarding the validity or invalidity of ballots, and declaring official results, in addition to other responsibilities.
The five successful candidates will serve a four-year term through to the GFA Congress in 2027. The GFA Statutes list 15 powers of the Executive Committee in Article 43, which include passing decision on all cases that do not come within the sphere of responsibility of the Congress or are not reserved for other bodies by law or under the Statutes, approving and issuing regulations governing the conditions of participation in and the staging of competitions organized by GFA, appointing coaches for Guam’s representative teams and other technical staff, and ensuring the application of GFA Statutes, among others.
At this year’s Congress, GFA will be welcoming representatives from FIFA and AFC as observers.
