Semifinals Set for Bank of Guam 8th GFA Cup Tourney

[May 13, 2015 – Harmon, Guam] The Southern Cobras and Doosan FC were the first premier division teams to fall in Bank of Guam 8th Annual GFA Cup quarterfinal action at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

In the tournament’s first quarterfinal matchup, Guam Shipyard defeated the Southern Cobras 3-1 with a pair of goals from Mark Chargualaf and one from Micah Paulino. Gerard Aguon scored the Cobras’ lone goal of the contest.

The Rovers DII are the lone second division team to make the quarterfinals of the tournament after defeating Doosan FC 10-0.

Kyle Legozzie, Jeremy Boldt, and Ryo Sakane each had two goals and Agustin Choi, Luis Quichocho, Adrian Kense, and Kazuki Yoshida also scored. The Rovers DII also recorded the tournament’s first red-card in the 14th minute of play, while Doosan accumulated four yellow cards in the contest.

Defending champion Rovers DI defeated the Paradise Fitness Sidekicks 7-0 with two goals each from Ian Mariano and Jason Cunliffe and one each from Nathan Sablan, Jonathan Archibald, and Natsuki Recella.

The Payless Supermarket Strykers advanced to the semifinals with a 6-2 victory over former champions Quality Distributors FC. Min Choi scored four for the winners and Marcus Lopez and Dylan Naputi added one each for the Strykers. Shane Casey, Jr. scored twice for Quality.

Semifinals will be played Sunday, May 17 beginning at 7 p.m. with Guam Shipyard taking on Rovers DII. Defending champions Rovers DI will play the Strykers at 9 p.m.
