Quality to Play Wings Red in SP17 Minetgot Cup U18 Final

[April 4, 2017 – Harmon, Guam] – A new champion will be crowned in the Spring 2017 season of the Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League U18 division.

Quality Distributors managed to pull a 5-2 win over last season’s champions, Bank of Guam Strykers, Monday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center in one of two semifinal matches.

Quality’s Sam Larkin led all scorers with four in the win and teammate Tara Usita-Lee also scored in the contest. Joshua Calvo scored both goals for the Strykers. Quality will play against the undefeated Wings Red team in the final, scheduled for Apr. 22 at 4:45 p.m. at GFA.

Wings Red defeated their Black counterparts in the division’s other semifinal match, 11-3. Noah Duenas led all scorers with four goals in the win and teammates Devan Mendiola, Jordan Jasmin, and Derek Okuhama scored twice each. Kennedy Macatuno scored Wings Red’s other goal. Tyler Presto, Kian Malakooti, and Kyle Halehale scored for Wings Black.

In the break between Monday evening’s semifinal matches and the Apr. 22 championship match, three teams in the league will play friendly matches against the visiting Northern Mariana Islands U18 national team.

In the U15 division, the ASC Trust Islanders take over the top-ranked position in league standings with a 7-1 win over the Bank of Guam Strykers played Saturday morning. Jonathan Sevilla and Juan Sarmiento each scored hat tricks in the win and Caiyle Gogue scored the Islanders’ other goal. Andrew Stenson scored for the Strykers.

Community First/Days Inn Dededo Soccer Club knocked the Tigers down to No. 2 in league standings with a 2-1 win. Christian Kido scored both goals for Dededo and Kris Fernandez scored the Tigers’ lone goal.

In the U13 division, Wings Red stay undefeated with a 10-0 win over Dededo. Andrew Choi and Nainoa Norton each scored twice and teammates Justin Joseph, Kyle Takano, Annie Jones, Taiyo Kanekatsu, and Daisei Watable also scored. Wings Red’s other goal came on a Dededo own goal.

The ASC Trust Islanders are right behind Wings Red in the standings with a 9-0 win over the Bank of Guam Strykers. Mason Sanchez scored four in the win and teammate Ethan Sablan contributed a hat trick. Riley Rama scored the Islanders’ other two goals.

Guam Shipyard Wolverines are currently No. 3 in the standings with a 7-1 win over Wings Black. Erwin Manibusan finished with a hat trick and teammate Nathan Toves scored twice. Tyler Concepcion and Joshua Young also scored in the win. Raito Atsuta scored Wings Black’s lone goal.
