27 Feb Quality Distributors, Bank of Guam Strykers in Bud Light women’s futsal final
[February 27, 2022 – Harmon, Guam] A new champion will be crowned in the Bud Light Women’s Futsal League for the 2022-2023 season.
The Bank of Guam Strykers I slipped past last season’s champion, Guam Shipyard, 4-3 in the league’s first semifinal match Sunday afternoon at the Guam Sports Complex gym.
Koharu Minato led all scorers with two goals and Olivia Haddock also scored in the win. The Strykers’ other goal came on a Guam Shipyard own goal. Colleen Naden, Moana Taijeron, and Loyola Phillip scored for Guam Shipyard.
In the second semifinal match, the undefeated Quality Distributors FC outplayed The Venue Sidekick SC 5-1 with four goals from Franshay Pangelinan and one from Monica Marquez. Stephanie Bordallo scored the Sidekick SC’s lone goal in the contest.
The Strykers will make their second-straight championship match appearance in the league and will take on Quality at 2 p.m. Mar. 5 at the Guam Sports Complex gym. Quality makes its first championship match appearance since 2019. In the regular season, the Strykers and Quality battled to a 1-1 draw in Week 4 matches.
Sidekick SC will play against Guam Shipyard for third place at 1 p.m. Mar. 5 at the Guam Sports Complex gym. In the regular season, Guam Shipyard defeated Sidekick SC 6-1 in Week 1 play.
Following the championship match, trophies will be presented to the winning teams as well as top individual players: Guam Shipyard’s Colleen Naden won the league’s Golden Boot Award and Quality Distributors FC’s Chyna Ramirez won the league’s Golden Glove Award. The Bank of Guam Strykers also earned the league’s Fair Play Award.
The date of the league’s final set of matches coincides with Guam’s celebration of AFC Women’s Football Day. Also on Mar. 5, GFA will play host to the 14th Annual Sugar and Spice Middle School Girls Soccer Festival being held concurrently with a Guam Cancer Care Wellness Fair and Health Screening and a donation drive to benefit VARO (Victim Advocates Reaching Out). The day will also feature a Mother-Daughter fun match from 3:15 p.m. followed by regular season matches of the Docomo Pacific Soccer Moms League and the GFA Women’s Recreational League.
