Playoffs Set for Fall 2017 Bud Light Women’s League

[October 26, 2017 – Harmon, Guam] – The first round of playoffs of the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League Premier Division (W1), featuring the league’s teams ranked No. 3 to No. 6, begin Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

In Sunday’s single-elimination playoff double header, No. 4 Bank of Guam Lady Strykers will take on No. 5 Nutrition Mission Heat at 5 p.m. followed by No. 3 Quality Distributors playing against No. 6 Hyundai. The winners of the matches will play against No. 1 Personal Finance Center Lady Crushers and No. 2 NAPA Lady Rovers, respectively, in the semifinals kicking off at 5 p.m. Nov. 5. The championship match will be played at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at GFA.

The GFA Women’s Committee released the final league rankings following the conclusion of Week 5 matches played Oct. 22 to finalize the playoff schedule.

In Week 5 matches, the Personal Finance Center Lady Crushers claimed the No. 1 spot based on superior goal differential with a 5-2 win over the Bank of Guam Lady Strykers. Anjelica Perez led all scorers with two goals and teammates Katie Wendal, April Talledo, and Skyylerblu Johnson also scored in the win. Jinae Teria and Alexy Dacanay scored for the Lady Strykers.

In the other match played, Quality Distributors defeated Nutrition Mission Heat 3-1 with goals from Franshay Shippey, Randi Jo Paulino, and Hopemary Calip. Emily Perkins scored for Heat.

The NAPA Lady Rovers won via forfeit over Hyundai.

In the Golden Boot race, the single goal scored by Teria against the Lady Crushers in Week 5 made the difference, as the 14-year-old league debutant won with Fall 2017 honor. Teria scored seven goals in five matches, ahead of the Lady Rovers’ Brianne Leon Guerrero and the Lady Crushers’ Perez and Colleen Naden, each scoring six in the regular season.

Teria’s title as Fall 2017 Golden Boot winner marks the first time since Spring 2015 that a player from a team other than the Lady Crushers won the award.

In the Golden Glove category, NAPA Rovers’ Anisa Topasna finished with the best record of the league’s goalkeepers, allowing only four goals in 270 minutes played, averaging just 1.3 goals allowed per game. Topasna also led the league in clean sheets with two.

In the W2 division matches played Oct. 22, ISC/Calvo’s SelectCare Team Slay defeated Team Mosa’s 5-0 with goals from Raelene Tajalle, Belle Shimizu, Christina Thomas, Charisse Bolabola, and Brianna Benito. The University of Guam Tritons defeated FC Familia 4-1 with goals from Koholali’I Maertens, Elisha Benavente, Mellanne Rasmussen, and Aiyana Shedd. Erin Retuyan scored FC Familia’s lone goal.
