Playoffs Loom for Top Teams in Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup

[October 24, 2017 – Harmon, Guam] – Wings Red managed to avert a Bank of Guam Strykers spoiler in the final week of the regular season of the Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League U18 Division Monday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Strykers’ Micah Hennegan, the division’s Golden Boot winner, managed to net a hat trick by the 54th minute to put his team ahead 3-1; however, with an upset brewing solely for bragging rights before Oct. 30’s playoff semifinals, two back-to-back goals by John Anthony Cruz for Wings Red in the 68th and 69th minutes of play eventually forced a 3-3 draw, keeping his team’s undefeated record intact. Wings Red’s Tyler Presto scored his team’s other goal in the first half.

In the U18 Division’s other match, eleven players from defending champions Quality Distributors scored in a 12-1 win over a shorthanded Tigers team.

Taka Ward led all scorers with two goals for the winning team and teammates Matthew Calip, Kanta Terai, Tara Usita-Lee, Sam Larkin, James Lee, James Jeong, Eddie Huang, Camden Camacho, Matthew Lenherr, and An Truong also scored. Foley Ngirchokebai scored the Tigers’ lone goal.

Division playoffs begin Oct. 30 with No. 2 ASC Trust Islanders taking on No. 3 Bank of Guam Strykers at 7 p.m. No. 1 Wings Red will play against No. 4 Quality Distributors, also at 7 p.m.
