PFC Lady Crushers Begin Women’s Title Defense With Win

[September 26, 2016 – Harmon, Guam] – Spring champions Personal Finance Center Lady Crushers continued their winning ways as the 2016 Bud Light Women’s Soccer League Fall season officially kicked off Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Lady Crushers, undefeated in league play since Nov. 8, 2015, opened its 2016 Fall season campaign with a strong 13-0 win over a shorthanded Hyundai team. Colleen Naden led the team with four goals scored and teammate Kimberly Sherman finished with a hat trick. Anjelica Perez scored two in the win and teammates Katie Wendal, Skyylerblu Johnson, Carla Haddock and Caylani Estoy chipped in one apiece.

In other matches, Spring season runner-up Napa Rovers FC also picked up a shutout victory after defeating Nutrition Mission Heat 4-0. Courtney Salgado and Brianne Leon Guerrero each scored twice for the winning team.

In the late match, Quality Distributors forced a 2-2 draw with the Bank of Guam Lady Strykers.

The Lady Strykers struck first with a goal from Alexy Dacanay breakaway in the fifth minute and the team held until the halftime whistle.

In the 52nd minute, a gutsy play by the Lady Strykers goalkeeper Jena Cruz helped Quality find the equalizer on a Jalana Garcia strike. Cruz raced out of the penalty area in an attempt to clear the ball, but struggled with Garcia on the play, who managed to take a shot. Lady Strykers defenders were unable to track back quick enough to clear the ball off the goal line.

The Lady Strykers answered back a minute later with another Dacanay one-on-one with Quality goalkeeper Chyna Ramirez, but a goal from Paige Surber off a parried shot in the 70th minute leveled the game again for the final score.

Women’s soccer action continues Sunday with the Bank of Guam Lady Strykers taking on Hyundai at 4 p.m. followed by Quality Distributors against Napa Rovers FC at 6 p.m. Nutrition Mission Heat will play against the Personal Finance Center Lady Crushers in the late match at 8 p.m.
