Paintco Lady Strykers Regain First Place in the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League

A 4-4 draw between Guam Shipyard and Quality Distributors helped the Paintco Lady Strykers regain first place in Week 5 of the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Guam Shipyard, the only undefeated team in the league, slipped to second place with the team’s second draw of the season. Guam Shipyard led 3-2 at halftime but could not continue to contain Quality’s Paige Surber, who scored both of her team’s second half goals. Surber’s teammate Kayla Kinney scored Quality’s first two goals in the match.

Destiny Castro scored a pair of goals in the first half for Guam Shipyard and teammates Demi Rose Brennan and Erica Quichocho also scored in the contest.

The Lady Strykers held up their end of the bargain later in the day taking no chances in a 7-1 game against a short-handed Hyundai team. Kim Sherman, Allie Burnet, and Felicia Alumbaugh each scored twice for the league frontrunners and Krystiana Martinez scored once for the Lady Strykers’ final tally. Shana Spindel scored Hyundai’s lone goal. The loss is Hyundai’s second straight after squeaking past Quality Distributors 5-4 in Week 3.

In other matches, the Doosan Lady Crushers defeated the University of Guam Tritons 8-5 to move up one place in the rankings above Hyundai. Colleen Naden scored four goals for the Lady Crushers and teammate Andrea Odell scored twice for the winning team. Kathleen Newland and Skyylerblu Johnson also added a goal each for the Lady Crushers. The Tritons were led by Simie Willter’s four goals. Regina Shiroma scored UOG’s other goal in the contest.

In the day’s late game, the dck Masters, the only team that managed to defeat the Lady Strykers so far, continued their winning ways, this time with a 3-0 win over Pika Soccer Club. Rhoda Bamba, Quincy Tougher and Isabelle Ligon each scored a goal for the winning team.

After five weeks of play, Quality’s Surber leads the Golden Boot race with 11 goals so far for the season. UOG’s Willter is in second place with 10 goals to her credit after five games. Naden currently is in third place, scoring nine goals in five games for the Lady Crushers.

Bud Light Women’s Soccer League continues Sunday with Hyundai facing Pika Soccer Club at 3:30 p.m. at the GFA lower turf pitch, followed by Guam Shipyard taking on the Lady Strykers at 4 p.m. at the GFA upper turf pitch. The Lady Crushers will play the Masters at 6 p.m. at the GFA upper turf pitch and UOG will take on Quality Distributors in the day’s late game at 8 p.m. There is no admission fee to watch the games.
