NAPA Rovers Win Fall 2016 Bud Light Women’s Soccer Title

[December 12, 2016 – Harmon, Guam] – No. 4 NAPA Rovers capped their perfect run in the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League playoffs with a dramatic 4-3 championship win over Quality Distributors in extra time Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Fifteen-year-old Brianne Leon Guerrero had the eventual game-winning strike for the Rovers in the first half of extra time and the Rovers shut down Quality for the remainder of the match. Mindy Wilson, Courtney Salgado, and Laura Nadeau scored for the winning team in regulation time.

Jalana Garcia scored twice for Quality and teammate April Talledo also scored to level the match at 3-3 after 90 minutes to force extra time.

Both teams engaged in epic runs to the finals, with the Rovers first blanking No. 5 Bank of Guam Lady Strykers 2-0 in the first round and in the following week, repeating its two-goal performance against Personal Finance Center Lady Crushers, snapping the No. 1-seeded team’s undefeated streak dating back from Nov. 8, 2015.

Quality Distributors first got past Nutrition Mission Southern Heat 6-0 in Round 1 and needed extra time to upset No. 2 Hyundai 6-2 for a ticket to the finals.

The Rovers and Quality were awarded the championship trophy and runner-up trophy, respectively, during an awards ceremony following the final match. Also recognized during the awards ceremony were Golden Boot Award winner Colleen Naden and Golden Glove Award winner Taisha Palma, both from the Personal Finance Center Lady Crushers.

Naden scored 13 goals in five matches, six more than teammate Skyylerblu Johnson in the Golden Boot race. Naden also won the award in the Fall 2015 season. Palma finished as the league’s top goalkeeper, allowing no goals in 220 minutes played. The Fall 2016 season is the first to feature the Golden Glove award.

In the league’s consolation match, the Lady Crushers defeated Hyundai 13-3. Colleen Naden led all scorers with four goals and teammates Anjelica Perez and Skyylerblu Johnson each contributed hat tricks. Katie Wendal, Carla Haddock, and Simie Willter scored the Lady Crushers other goals. Olivia Flores scored twice for Hyundai and Erica Quichocho also scored.
