Lady Strykers, Guam Shipyard Settle for Draw in Week 3

[December 2, 2019 – Harmon, Guam] Defending champions Bank of Guam Lady Strykers managed to overcome an early deficit to force a 1-1 draw with Guam Shipyard Women in Week 3 of the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League Premier Division at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Guam Shipyard Women earned the early lead nearing the eighth minute after Veronica Dydasco won the foot race to the ball off a long pass from Shyann Roberto for a shot at goal. Lady Strykers goalkeeper Kiarra Hutcherson momentarily disrupted the play, but Taylor Crisostomo finished the follow-up shot against the league leaders for the 1-0 advantage.

A few minutes before the halftime whistle, Lady Strykers’ Alexy Dacanay drew a foul in the midfield to set up a free kick for Kaia Malakooti. Malakooti launched the ball into the box and teammate Jinae Teria won the last touch on the ball in the ensuing goalmouth scramble for the eventual game-tying goal in the 43rd minute.

The Lady Strykers continue in top position undefeated through Week 3 and will next face Islanders FC, still in the hunt for a victory after falling to the University of Guam Lady Tritons 6-1 in Week 3 play. Colleen Naden led all scorers with a hat trick and teammates Tara Usita-Lee, Nadine Calceta, and Brianne Leon Guerrero also scored. Sarah Benavente scored the Islanders’ lone goal.

In the late match, Heavy Hitters/Nutrition Mission Heat blanked Quality Distributors 3-0 with all three goals from Alexandra Shimasaki.

In the league’s Amateur Division, all three matches played in Week 3 resulted in 5-0 score lines.

Tsunami defeated Team Mosa’s with two goals from Sarah Hill and one each from Alexandra Parant, Tracy Kents, and Stephanie Shock.

NAPA Lady Rovers defeated Omega Diamonds with two goals each from Cassandra Kido and Kiana Clark. Jourdan Siguenza scored the Lady Rovers’ other goal.

The Venue Sidekicks defeated the Bank of Guam Lady Strykers II with two goals from Elisha Benavente and one each from Melissa Guevara, Brianna Benito, and Mellanne Rasmussen.

Budweiser Soccer League

In the lone Budweiser Soccer League Premier Division match played Saturday, Manhoben Lalahi defeated Guam Shipyard 8-2. Andrew Stenson and Kyle Halehale each scored twice in the win and teammates Morgan McKenna, Daniel Glasscock, Taiga Simon, and Nainoa Norton also scored. Russell Perez and Kevin Leasiolagi scored for Guam Shipyard.

In the Amateur Division, Bank of Guam Strykers II defeated Omega Warriors 4-1 with goals from Ethan San Nicolas, Davin Pascual, Stephen Tomasiak, and Shane Cepeda. Kautong Omengkar scored for Omega.

The GWM Bombers SC defeated FC Beercelona 3-0 with goals from Zachary Rasp, Eugene Hayes, and Travis Elswick.
