Lady Crushers Take No. 1 Spot in Women’s Soccer Playoffs

[April 4, 2016 – Harmon, Guam] – The Personal Finance Center Lady Crushers finished undefeated in regular Spring season play of the 2016 Bud Light Women’s Soccer League, earning the No. 1 spot in league playoffs beginning Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

In final week matches of regular season play, the Lady Crushers blanked 2015 Fall season champions Quality Distributors 5-0, led by a four-goal performance from 16-year-old Skyylerblu Johnson. Anjelica Perez also scored for the winning team. The Lady Crushers’ undefeated streak dates back to Nov. 8 last year, after the team bounced back from a 5-4 loss to Quality in Week 4 action of the 2015 Fall season. The Lady Crushers also secured its third Women’s GFA Cup title later in the year.

In other matches, the Lady Rovers salvaged a 2-2 draw with the Isla Paint and Roofing Supply Lady Strykers, enough to secure the No. 2 spot moving into league playoffs.

With the score deadlocked at 1-all at the half, the Lady Strykers pulled ahead with a goal from Alexy Dacanay, who took a through ball past the Lady Rovers’ last line of defense for the score. The Lady Strykers almost made it 3-1 moments later when Marea Masnayon finished a Dacanay cross from the right side, but the goal was called back as Masnayon was deemed offside on the play.

The Lady Rovers later tightened its defense after Laura Nadeau scored the game-tying goal to record a draw in the teams’ final-week fixture. Erica Alejandro scored the Lady Strykers’ first-half goal and Chloe Salas scored first for the Lady Rovers. With the loss, the Lady Strykers moved down to the No. 5 spot in the playoffs.

Hyundai finished in the league’s bronze position with a 4-1 victory over Southern Heat. Arisa Recella scored twice for Hyundai and teammates Ianna Mariano and Alyssa Benito also scored. Lyka Ogo scored the Heat’s lone goal.

In the league’s Golden Boot race, Johnson wins her second crown, this season scoring 15 goals in six matches. Johnson, a sophomore at George Washington High School and championship match MVP of the recently concluded 2016 Girls High School “Challenge Cup” Preseason tournament, also won the women’s league Golden Boot award in the 2014 Fall season when she was just 14 years old. Johnson’s teammates, Perez and Colleen Naden, finished in second and third place in the Golden Boot race respectively. Perez scored eight goals in six matches and Naden, a junior at Southern High School, scored seven goals in six matches.

In the first round of league playoffs, No. 4 Quality Distributors will play No. 5 Lady Strykers at 5 p.m. and No. 3 Hyundai will take on No. 6 Southern Heat, also at 5 p.m. No. 2 Lady Rovers will play against No. 7 Islanders FC beginning at 7 p.m. The No. 1-ranked Lady Crushers received a bye in the first round of playoffs.
