JFK Islanders win first-ever Boys HS Preseason Tourney

[October 24, 2016 – Harmon, Guam] The John F. Kennedy High School Islanders prevented a comeback by Southern High School in a 6-4 contest to win the first-ever IIAAG Boys High School Soccer League Pre-season Tournament presented by Guam Football Association with support from Japan Football Association Sunday evening.

The Islanders amassed a commanding 4-0 lead by halftime and tacked on two more goals before Southern was able to find the back of the net. JFK’s Devan Mendiola led all scorers with a hat trick and teammates Eddie Cho, Noah Duenas, and Takumi Ito also scored. Francisco Aquiningoc, Trevin Gonzales, Christopher Bulala, and Seth Surber scored for Southern, all in the second half.

With the win, JFK finished undefeated in the double-elimination, single-day tournament.

Southern dropped its first match of the tournament to Simon Sanchez High School, but next won against Okkodo High School and later, in the team’s second match against Simon Sanchez High School to meet JFK in the championship match.
