Islanders Win Battle of U18 Elite League 2017 Debutants

[August 25, 2017 – Harmon, Guam] – The ASC Trust Islanders won the battle of U18 division debutants of the 2017 Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League Fall season Thursday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Facing a 1-0 deficit just before the 30-minute mark, the Islanders turned up the intensity to defeat the Tigers 6-1 in both teams’ first-ever match in the Minetgot Cup’s U18 division.

Devan Mendiola scored a goal in each of the halves to lead all scorers in the contest. Teammates Nyan Domingo, Noah Duenas, Todd Pangelinan, and Brandon Auayan also scored for the winning team. Seung Min Kim scored the Tigers’ lone goal.

The Islanders will next play Saturday against defending champions Quality Distributors beginning at 7 p.m.

The Tigers will next play last season’s runner-up, Wings Red, on Saturday evening also beginning at 7 p.m.

U13 and U15 divisions of the Minetgot Cup continue Saturday morning.

In the U13 division, the Bank of Guam Strykers will take on Wings Red at 8 a.m. followed by Community First/Days Inn Dededo Soccer Club against the Guam Shipyard Wolverines at 9:25 a.m.

In the U15 division, the Bank of Guam Strykers will play against Wings Red at 8 a.m. followed by Community First/Days Inn Dededo Soccer Club against the Tigers at 9:50 a.m.
