Isa Islanders Pick Up Narrow Win in Women’s Soccer

October 5, 2015 – Harmon, Guam] – League newcomers Isla Sports Association (ISA) Islanders started off their Bud Light Women’s Soccer League Fall season campaign with a narrow win against Guam Shipyard Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Islanders, rejoining the league after a five-year hiatus, slipped past Guam Shipyard 3-2 with the eventual game-winner from Cienna Reyes coming in the 88th minute. Aubrienne Pangindian and Erlissa Delfin also scored for the Islanders. Erica Quichocho scored both of Shipyard’s goals.

The Islanders received a bye in the league’s first week of play.

In other Week 2 league matches, Quality Distributors stay on top of league standings with a 5-1 win over the Isla Paint and Roof Supply Lady Strykers. April Talledo and Paris “Mames” Blas each scored twice for Quality and Savannah Camacho scored the winning team’s other goal. Kimberly Sherman scored the Lady Strykers’ lone goal in the contest.

Hyundai picked up its first win of the season with an 8-1 victory over league newcomers Dededo Soccer Club. Shana Spindel, Olivia Flores, and Taylor Crisostomo each tallied two goals each and teammate Arisa Recella also scored. Hyundai’s other goal came on a Dededo own goal. Christine Ubaldo scored Dededo’s first goal of the season.

The Lady Rovers picked up a forfeit win over Southern Heat.

In the league’s Golden Boot race, Quality’s Talledo is tied with Lady Strykers’ Sherman in first with six goals each in two matches, followed by Lady Strykers’ Alexy Dacanay with four goals.

League play continues Sunday with the Islanders taking on the Lady Strykers at 3 p.m. on United Airlines Field 2 and Dededo playing against Shipyard on United Airlines Field 1, also at 3 p.m. Hyundai will face the Lady Crushers at 5 p.m., followed by Quality playing against the Lady Rovers at 7 p.m.

All-Girls Soccer

The GFA & The Score’s “Just Kick It” All-Girls League continued with Week 2 matches Sunday afternoon at GFA.

In the U17 division, the Geckos picked up a win over the Southern Cobras with goals from Jo’Ani Gogue, Ana Aguon, Sydney Aguon, Sawyer Park, and Autumn Cruz. In the other U17 match, Dededo defeated Quality 7-3 with four goals from Richelle Ragadio and one each from Mellanne Rasmussen, Ariya Cruz, and Alanna Barnhart. Tamica Hechanova scored twice for Quality and Mia Chabanne also scored.

The All-Girls league continues Sunday.
