Hyundai Take Over Top Position in Women’s Futsal

[July 14, 2015 – Harmon, Guam] – Hyundai takes over the top spot in the Bud Light Women’s Futsal League standings halfway through the 2016 season following Week 3 action at the Guam Football Association National Training Center futsal courts.

Hyundai, one of only two undefeated teams in the league, managed to take down defending champions Personal Finance Center Lady Crushers 5-3 Sunday with a pair of goals from the team’s scoring leader Olivia Flores and one each from Erica Quichocho, Arisa Recella, and Demi-Rae Shimizu. Simie Willter scored all three goals for the Lady Crushers, playing without current Golden Boot leader Anjelica Perez. With the loss, the Lady Crushers move down to the No. 3 position in league standings.

In other Week 3 matches, the Isla Paint and Roofing Supply Lady Strykers remained perfect with a 5-2 win over Southern Heat to settle into the second-place position on the leaderboard. Ashley Besagar scored twice in the win and teammates Alexy Dacanay, Sarah Graham, and Ramona Nelson also scored. Hannah Tyquiengco and Susan Lupola scored for Southern Heat.

In Week 3’s other match, the Lady Rovers gained much-needed attacking support with the return of Laura Nadeau, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Quality Distributors in a 6-4 loss. Paige Surber and Paris “Mames” Blas each scored twice for Quality and teammates Franshay Shippey and April Talledo also scored. Nadeau scored all four goals for the Lady Rovers this season in Week 3.

Perez leads the league’s Golden Boot Race with 10 goals in two matches, followed by teammate Skyylerblu Johnson with eight goals in three matches. Flores is in third place with six goals in three matches.

The league takes a weeklong break to accommodate the FIFA Women’s Coaching Course, which will be held at GFA from July 17 to July 23. Visiting FIFA instructor Belinda Wilson, also head coach of the Brisbane Roar FC of Australia’s Westfield W-League, will be conducting the course for registered participants.

Women’s futsal action continues July 24 with the Lady Strykers taking on the Lady Crushers at 5 p.m., followed by the Lady Rovers against Southern Heat at 6 p.m. Hyundai and Quality play the late match, kicking off at 7 p.m.
