Hong Kong, China hold on to 1-0 win over Guam in AFC U23 tournament

[September 6, 2025 – Abu Dhabi, UAE]  (From the AFC Web site) Hong Kong, China took the lead after only three minutes with Lee Lok Him taking advantage of the ball that was allowed to bounce unchallenged into the box to smash home from close range at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi, UAE Sept. 9.

Lee had two further efforts saved by Guam custodian Josiah Jones before Hong Kong, China goalkeeper Chan Kun Sun had to push away Elijah Ochoa’s strike from distance to keep the lead going into the break.

The match became heated and tense after the interval with Hong Kong, China going down to 10 men in the 53rd minute when midfielder Haddow Jay was dismissed for picking up a second yellow after an altercation with Eduardo Pedemonte.

With numerical advantage on their side, Guam poured forward but missed several gilt-edged chances as Hong Kong, China held on for the win.
