26 Dec Guam Shipyard Wins Docomo Pacific Men’s Futsal Crown
Guam Shipyard maintained its undefeated status in the 2013 Docomo Pacific Men’s Futsal League and crushed the Rovers FC 13-3 in the championship match for the title at the Guam Sports Complex gym.
After falling to a quick 2-0 deficit early in the match, the Rovers got on board in the 10th minute when Brian Torres connected on an Eric Redona kick in. Almost immediately after, Guam Shipyard went on a 5-0 run to take a commanding 7-1 lead at halftime.
Guam Shipyard continued its dominance in the second half, outscoring its opponents 6-2 to claim the championship crown.
Jason Cunliffe scored five goals and Ian Mariano scored four goals for the winning team. Chris Reyes, Vinicius Rodrigues, Donald Weakley and Ajay Pothen also scored for Shipyard. Brian Torres, Jeremy Hare and Shawn Spindel scored for the Rovers FC.
In the earlier consolation match, the Cobras officially took third place with an 7-5 win over Quality Distributors FC. Eddie Lee Lorenzo finished with a hat trick and teammates Donovan Reyes and Jan Flores each scored twice for the winning team. Joshua Mendiola scored twice for Quality and David John Cruz, James Bush and Douglas Lauder added to Quality’s tally.
A short awards ceremony was held after the championship match. Mariano was awarded the league’s Golden Boot trophy after amassing a 27-goal tally for the season. The Crushers FC was honored with the Fair Play trophy, as the team was recognized as receiving no yellow or red cards during the season. After, Shipyard was awarded the championship trophy.
