Guam, NMI clubs play in Thanksgiving weekend friendlies

[November 26, 2016 – Harmon, Guam] The Wings FC, champions of both the U14 and U12 divisions of the recently concluded Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League, went undefeated against strong Kanoa FC teams visiting from Saipan on Day 1 of a full weekend of scheduled friendlies at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

In the U14 division, the Wings first drew 2-2 with the visitors in Friday’s morning match and later defeated Kanoa FC 4-1 in the day’s afternoon match.

In the morning match, Kyle Halehale and Mark Iseke scored for the Wings and Thomas Benavente and Andruw Omelau scored for Kanoa FC.

In the afternoon match, Eddie Cho scored twice for the Wings and teammates Iseke and Hayden Shedd also scored. Omelau scored Kanoa FC’s lone goal in the afternoon match.

In the U12 division, visiting Kanoa FC went 1-1 on Day 1 of matches, dropping its first match against the Wings 4-3 and later defeating the Bank of Guam Strykers 6-1 in the evening match.

Kanoa FC kept the game in reach against the Wings FC in the first U12 division contest, but couldn’t find an answer to the eventual game winner from the Wings’ Justin Joseph late in the second half. Nainoa Norton, U12 division Golden Boot of the recently concluded Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League, led all scorers with a pair of goals and teammate Andrew Choi scored the Wings’ other goal. Markus Toves, Jaydee Jose, and Kohtoro Goto scored for Kanoa FC.

In the evening’s match, Jose led all scorers with four goals against the Strykers and teammates Brian Lubao and Paulynn Joyce also scored. Bryan Nakamine scored for the Strykers.

In the final match of the day, the Guam Girls All-Stars, coached by Samuel San Gil, defeated the visiting Matansa FC U16 Girls team 2-0 with a goal each from Aubrienne Pangindian and Skyylerblu Johnson.

The friendly matches continue through to Sunday. The NMI teams will also play against the EFR Southern Cobras and the Tumon Typhoons Soccer Club.
