GFA Men’s Committee Announces Official GFA Cup Draw

[March 20, 2015 – Harmon, Guam] – Members of the Guam Football Association Men’s Committee, in addition to various Budweiser Soccer League team representatives, officially completed the blind draw for the upcoming Bank of Guam® 8th Annual GFA Cup men’s soccer tournament, held at the GFA National Training Center Wednesday evening.

The blind draw was completed by first placing all Masters Division teams and the bottom seven teams from Division II in a pot to determine qualifying round fixtures. Next, the top three Division II teams, along with all Division I teams were placed in a pot, along with qualifying-round match winners to determine the first round of matches in the main draw. Winners continue to move through the bracket to the final.

Match dates have not yet been set, pending the rescheduling of matches affected by Tropical Storm Bavi last week.

Bank of Guam® recently renewed its sponsorship of the GFA Cup men’s soccer tournament for the third-straight year in a check presentation ceremony at the bank’s headquarters in Hagåtña. In attendance for the check presentation are Ross Awa, GFA Men’s Administrator, Richard Lai, GFA President and Men’s Committee Chairperson, Brad Miller, player from Quality Distributors FC, Joaquin P.L.G. Cook, Bank of Guam® Executive Vice President/Chief Sales Officer, Jonahan Romero, player from the Strykers FC Division I team, and Keith Dickson, GFA Men’s Committee Deputy Chairperson.

The annual tournament pits all BSL teams from all divisions in one, single-elimination tournament to crown Guam’s best club soccer team for the year. In eight years, there have only been three teams that have hoisted the championship trophy – Quality Distributors FC, Guam Shipyard, and the Rovers FC Division I.
