GFA “D” Coaching Course to be offered over weekend

[January 29, 2020 – Harmon, Guam] With the start of the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League early next month, Guam Football Association will be holding a GFA “D” Coaching Certificate course open to all coaches Feb. 1-3 at GFA.

Sang Hoon Kim, a professional coach and instructor, and currently GFA’s Technical Director, will be conducting the three-day course with assistant Ross Awa. Slots are still available for this weekend’s course. supported by Japan Football Association.

Successful participants will receive the GFA “D” Coaching Certificate, a pre-requisite for local coaches to be considered for higher, international coaching licenses.

“GFA’s vision is to produce the highest quality football in Guam in order to develop coaches and players to compete at even higher levels,” Kim said. “In order to produce the next generation of players, we must improve our quality of coaches on island. GFA aims to deliver quality coach education courses to all participants at low or no cost in order to meet this objective.”

The course, primarily an introductory course for club and interscholastic league coaches, also is available to serve as a refresher course for coaches already licensed. Coaches will receive the latest coaching trends in teaching proper technique for shooting, dribbling, passing, and juggling, among other topics.

There is no cost to register and attend the course. Registered coaches will be required to bring running shoes, cleats, notebook and pen, hydration beverages, a towel or extra clothes in case of rain during outdoor practical sessions, and a USB flash drive to obtain course information from instructors.

Sample skill testing training sessions, as well as a video demonstrating fundamental skills and techniques, also is available for viewing on GFA’s Web site.
