Final Fixtures Revealed for GFA Cup, Women’s GFA Cup

[April 16, 2019 – Harmon, Guam] The final brackets for the upcoming Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup men’s soccer tournament and the Jamaican Grill Annual Women’s GFA Cup soccer tournament were recently published by the Guam Football Association Competitions Department.

Following Saturday evening’s official draw with William Li, Bank of Guam Assistant Vice President/Andersen Branch Manager and GFA Competitions Committee Chairman Gian Tenorio, teams from the Budweiser Soccer League Amateur Division and Masters Division were placed in the preliminary round of the Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup. The eight preliminary round matches will begin May 2 with winning teams advancing to the tournament’s main bracket.

The Bank of Guam Strykers II will officially open the tournament against Omega Warriors at 7 p.m. May 2, followed by the Guam Windward Memorial Bombers SC against NAPA Rovers Masters at 9 p.m. the same evening.

Also paired in the preliminary round are the Pago Bay Disasters and Big Blue Masters, IT&E Boonie Dawgs and Guam Shipyard (Amateur), Eurocar Masters and Hi-5 Logo Rowdies, Gino’s FC and FC Beercelona, Bank of Guam Strykers Masters and Crushers FC, and the Islanders FC (Amateur) and Mijoo Family FC.

The main bracket of the tournament will kick off at 7 p.m. May 9 with the winners from the preliminary round against seven teams from the Budweiser Soccer League Premier Division – NAPA Rovers FC, Bank of Guam Strykers FC, Lots of Art Tattoo Heat, Islanders FC, Quality Distributors FC, Sidekicks SC, and Guam Shipyard (Premier) – and the top team from the league’s Amateur Division, University of Guam Tritons.

The official draw for the Jamaican Grill Annual Women’s GFA Cup soccer tournament also was held Saturday evening with the restaurant’s co-owner Frank Kenney, the Jerk Chicken Man, and GFA Women’s Committee chairperson Tina Esteves.

For the first time, teams from two separate divisions of the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League will compete for this year’s Women’s GFA Cup title.

The Bank of Guam Lady Strykers (Amateur) will open the Women’s GFA Cup tournament against Amateur Division champions The Venue Slay at 5:30 p.m. Apr. 28, followed by Team Mosa’s against The Venue Sidekicks at 7:30 p.m. Other fixtures in the preliminary draw are the IT&E Lady Bombers against NAPA Lady Rovers, and Islanders FC against the University of Guam Lady Tritons.

The winners from the four fixtures will move on to the tournament’s main bracket beginning May 5 and play against the top four teams from the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League Premier Division: Bank of Guam Lady Strykers, Guam Shipyard, Quality Distributors, and Heavy Hitters/Nutrition Mission Heat.
