FIFA and GFA Academy coaches to hold trial sessions in select villages

[January 30, 2025 – Harmon, Guam] In an effort to realize the FIFA Talent Development Scheme mantra of giving every talent a chance, FIFA Talent Coach and Guam Football Association Academy coaches will be holding additional academy trial sessions on Saturdays in different regions of the island beginning Feb. 1.

FIFA Talent Coach Philip Neiland

“If your child has a desire and potential to excel both on and off the field of play, then this could be the program for them,” said Philip Neiland, FIFA Talent Coach in Guam. “Participation in the trials gives your child the chance to be part of this one-of-a-kind elite player/person development program. The trials on the weekends are specifically for players in the U14 to U16 Boys and U14 Girls age groups. Our coaching staff will be on site to evaluate and select the potential talents around the island who can contribute and be developed in the highest competitive environment on the island in the FIFA TDS National Academy at GFA.

“We are looking for high potential players who are passionate, dedicated, and committed to being the best, who want to compete against the best, and finally, have an ambition to compete on the world stage for Guam’s National Teams,” Neiland added.

In addition to ongoing open training sessions at the GFA National Training Center during the week, coaches will be traveling to different regions of the island for additional opportunities for youth players:

  • Saturday, Feb. 1 from 8 am to 3 pm: Wolverines Field, Talofofo
  • Saturday, Feb. 8 from 8 am to 3 pm: Tiyan Field (near SIFA)
  • Saturday, Feb. 15 from 8 am to 12 noon: GFA National Training Center

“We are sticking to the mission of the FIFA TDS program to really give every potential talent a chance,” Neiland said. “It is important to create avenues and pathways to ensure that regardless of your location or any other roadblock, we will work tirelessly to find a way to get every potential talent in front of our technical staff.”

Interested players will need to be registered online via PowerUp Sports:

There is no fee to register for the trial sessions. Selected players for the Academy will engage in training sessions at GFA during the week and play weekly high-level training and league matches.

The Academy is spearheaded by Dominic Gadia, Kimberly Sherman, Ralph Awa, Jude Bischoff, and Chyna Ramirez, with the support of Neiland.
