Docomo Pacific Soccer Moms, Women’s Rec leagues kick off

[June 28, 2021 – Harmon, Guam] After being away from the sport for over a year, 16 teams in the Guam Football Association Women’s Recreational League and the Docomo Pacific Soccer Moms League finally took to the pitch on opening day of their respective leagues Sunday at the GFA National Training Center.

Both leagues were set to kick off its 2020 Spring season in late March last year, but the COVID19 pandemic halted all league play and eventually canceled the teams’ season before it began.

“We were so excited to finally come back – it’s been a while since we played,” said Resa Saddo, who plays for Tumon FC in the GFA Women’s Recreational League. “We had first-game jitters of course and it was really hot (in the late afternoon), but it was fun. We’ve been looking forward to this day for a long time and also for all our upcoming games.”

Saddo went from playing the sport for the first time about five years ago to hat-trick hero Sunday, as Tumon FC settled for a 4-4 draw with the Quality Distributors Momsters.

Like most players in both recreational leagues, she decided to try the sport because her children enjoyed playing in the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth League.

Four other matches in the league were on schedule:

  • ASC Kickers vs Tsunami
  • Calvo’s SelectCare vs TC Majestics
  • Cars Plus vs Southern Heat
  • Barrigada Crusaders Recreational vs Trybe

On the UA-2 field Sunday evening, the Docomo Pacific Soccer Moms league kicked off with three matches:

  • Queen Cobras vs Latte Strong
  • Warriors vs Islander Moms
  • Dededo Disasters vs Femme Fatale

Both leagues take a break for the July 4 holiday and return to action July 11. Full schedules are available online for both leagues on GFA’s official Web site: https://guamfa.com/gfa-programs/all-leagues/womens/recreational/schedules-and-results/
