Defending Champs Strykers Vs Rovers in Cup Finale

[May 24, 2019 – Harmon, Guam] Defending champions Bank of Guam Strykers will take on six-time Budweiser Soccer League Premier Division champions NAPA Rovers FC in the finale of the Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Strykers dispatched Quality Distributors FC 5-1 in the semifinals Thursday evening to earn a spot in the championship match to defend their 2018 title. Ian Mariano, Bradley Dickson, Isiah Lagutang, Morgan McKenna, and Ethan Sablan each scored for the Strykers. Joseph Darly scored for Quality.

In the earlier match, the NAPA Rovers FC outlasted Islanders FC 6-4 to punch their ticket to the finals. James Lee and Micah Hennegan each scored twice and teammates Matt Robles and Michael Crowley added one each in the win. Inochi Recella, Antonio Prieto, Aaron Blaz, and Patson Haimin scored for the Islanders.

The championship match is set to kick off at 5 p.m. Sunday at GFA.

Following the men’s match will be the championship match of the Jamaican Grill Women’s GFA Cup featuring Bud Light Women’s Soccer League’s top two teams, Bank of Guam Lady Strykers against Guam Shipyard. The women’s title match will kick off at 7:30 p.m.

Between the championship matches, an awards ceremony will be held to recognize winners from both the Budweiser Soccer League and Bud Light Women’s Soccer League:

There is no admission fee to watch the matches. The day of championships begins with a live performance by local band Fifty Foot Radish at 3:45 p.m. Jamaican Grill will be on site for food sales, and a beer garden featuring Bud products will be on site. During halftime of the Women’s GFA Cup championship match, the final raffle prize winners will be drawn.

Also concluding on Sunday will be the Docomo Pacific Soccer Moms League and the GFA Women’s Recreational League. Top teams from each league will receive awards.

GFA also will be selling tickets for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 match between Guam and Bhutan, set to kick off at 3:15 p.m. on June 11 at GFA.
