Defending Champs Lady Rovers Win Futsal Opener

[June 29, 2015 – Harmon, Guam] – The Lady Rovers’ playing experience reigned over Quality Distributors’ youthful energy in the pair’s opening match of the 2015 Bud Light Women’s Futsal League at the Guam Sports Complex Gym Sunday.

The defending champions defeated Quality 10-7 with its skeleton crew of five against a team made up mostly of players still in their teens. Last season’s Golden Boot winner Rhoda Bamba earned half of her team’s goals and teammate Kyung Shipman scored twice. The Lady Rovers’ three other goals came on Quality own goals.

April Talledo led Quality with a hat trick and teammates Zoe Surber, Alisia Barcinas, Ginalynn Naburn, and Paris “Mames” Blas also scored.

In other matches, 2014 runner-up Hyundai kicked off its 2015 campaign with a 6-3 victory over league newcomer Southern Heat. Fourteen-year-old Aurianna Roben Morellano led Hyundai with a hat trick in her women’s futsal league debut. Ianna Mariano scored twice for Hyundai and teammate Alyssa Benito also scored. Katy Cox, Hannah Tyquiengco, and Marlena Connelley scored in the Heat’s debut in the league.

After both teams went scoreless in the first half, the Lady Crushers managed a second-half surge to slip past the Lady Strykers 4-2. Maria “Abbey” Iriarte led the Lady Crushers with two goals and teammates Anjelica Perez and Simie Willter also scored. Kimberly Sherman scored both goals for the Lady Strykers.

The Bud Light Women’s Futsal League continues Sunday with the Lady Rovers taking on Pika Soccer Club at 2 p.m. at the Guam Sports Complex Gym. Southern Heat will play against the Lady Strykers at 3 p.m., followed by Quality Distributors playing against the Lady Crushers at 4 p.m.
