Budweiser Soccer Top Division Kicks Off With 25 Goals

[October 21, 2019 – Harmon, Guam] A total of 25 goals from four matches were scored on opening weekend of the Budweiser Soccer League Premier Division Saturday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Last season’s runner-up, the Bank of Guam Strykers, take the early top spot in league standings following the team’s 8-0 shutout of the Sidekicks SC. A trio of players from the Matao, Guam men’s national football team, earned their places on the score sheet: Marcus Lopez led all scorers with five goals in the contest and teammate Aidan Dickson scored twice. Isiah Lagutang scored the Strykers’ other goal. Strykers’ goalkeeper Sean Evans earned the clean sheet in the contest.

In other matches, defending champion NAPA Rovers FC picked up a 6-1 win over Manhoben Lalahi. Min Sung Choi led all scorers with two goals for the Rovers and teammates Mark Chargualaf, Dylan Naputi, Matt Robles, and Tone Yukinobu also scored.

Christian Kido scored Manhoben Lalahi’s lone goal, erasing a clean sheet for Rovers goalkeeper Julius Campos.

Quality Distributors recorded a 5-0 shutout of Guam Shipyard with four goals from Ernest Baah and one from Takefumi Inoue. Quality keeper Brett Maluwelmeng earned a clean sheet in the contest.

The Islanders FC slipped past the University of Guam Tritons 3-2 with goals from Michael Castaneda, Noah Duenas, and Josh Pangelinan. Ryoga Okada scored both goals for UOG.

The other team in the division, Lots of Art Tattoo Heat, received a bye on opening week.

In Amateur Division matches, the Bank of Guam Strykers II defeated the NAPA Rovers II 2-0 with a pair of goals from Joseph Green.

Crushers FC defeated Pago Bay Disasters of Sidelines 4-1 with one goal each from Dietrich Weathington, Noah Medler, Thomas Medler, and Jacob Concepcion. Gerard Paulino scored Pago Bay’s lone goal.

FC Beercelona defeated the Omega Warriors 3-1 with two goals from Vincent Cruz and one from Kevin Hsueh. Joshua Cepeda scored for the Warriors.

The Islanders FC blanked Häagen Dazs 9-0, led by Todd Pangelinan’s hat trick. Kyle Legozzie, Aaron Blaz, and Dakota Concepcion each scored twice for the Islanders.

Matches continue Thursday for the league’s Amateur Division. The league’s Premier Division continues Saturday.

The league’s Masters Division is set to kick off Friday evening.
