Bank of Guam Strykers Topple U18 Elite Defending Champs

March 21, 2018 – Harmon, Guam] – No substitutes, no problem.

Despite fielding exactly 11 players for Week 3 of the Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League U18 Division, the Bank of Guam Strykers managed to topple defending champions ASC Trust Islanders 4-1 Monday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Joshua Calvo led the Strykers attack with two goals and teammates Jacob Herring and Vince Cruz also scored in the win. Juan Sarmiento scored the Islanders’ lone goal.

With the loss, the Islanders fall behind Wings FC in league standings based on goal differential. The Islanders, however, will have a chance to regain the top spot when they face the currently undefeated Wings in Monday’s continuation of the U18 Elite division at 6 p.m.

The Wings picked up a 3-0 win over Quality Distributors in the division’s other Week 3 match. Robert Niu, Takumi Odell, and Mark Iseke scored for the Wings.

In Week 2 of the league’s U15 Division played Saturday, defending champions Wings posted a 7-1 win over the Bank of Guam Strykers.

Morgan McKenna led all scorers with a hat trick and teammate Noah Mueller scored twice. Kai Suzuki and Taiga Simon scored the Wings’ other goals. Andrew Choi scored the Strykers’ lone goal.

In Week 2 of the league’s U13 Division, defending champions ASC Trust Islanders stay undefeated with a 1-0 edge over Wings FC. Adriel Gutierrez scored the lone goal in the contest.

Guam Shipyard Wolverines defeated the Bank of Guam Strykers 5-0 with two goals each from Maddax Lallatin and Erwin Manibusan and one from Riley Rama.

The Minetgot Cup Elite League continues Saturday with Week 3 of the U13 and U15 divisions. The U18 Division continues Monday with Week 4 matches.
