Bank of Guam Strykers Masters Take 2018 Co-Ed Title

[August 25, 2018 – Harmon, Guam] – The Bank of Guam Strykers Masters capped a perfect Bud Light Co-Ed Masters Soccer League season with the 2018 championship title after nipping defending champions NAPA Rovers Masters 1-0 late Friday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Kevin Knaeble had the winning strike on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box in the 76th minute to break the match’s scoreless deadlock.

With the 2018 title, the Strykers Masters became only the third team to win the Co-Ed Masters Soccer championship since the league’s inception in 2011. The Rovers Masters have the most titles, winning six. The only other team to hoist the Co-Ed Masters Soccer League championship trophy is the United Masters in 2015.

In the league’s third place match, three second-half goals by the United Masters lifted the team over Gino’s 4-1 for the 2018 bronze finish.

Tho Duan, Xiang Dong Liu, Hannah Netherton, and James Okuhama each scored once for United Masters and Shelly Santos scored Gino’s lone goal in the 88th minute.

Following the matches, the top two teams were awarded their respective trophies and individual awards were also presented to winners.

United Masters’ Hannah Netherton accepted the 2018 Golden Boot Award, becoming the first-ever female winner of the distinguished award. Netherton scored 12 goals in seven matches, including a hat trick in her team’s final regular season match to eclipse second-place finisher NAPA Rovers Masters’ Juven Roales, with 10 goals in seven matches to his credit.

Bank of Guam Strykers Masters goalkeeper Robert Jensen earned the 2018 Golden Glove Award, allowing zero goals during the entire regular season.
