ASC Trust Islanders Stay on Top of U18 Elite Leaderboard

[March 14, 2018 – Harmon, Guam] – The ASC Trust Islanders stay at the top of the Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League U18 division leaderboard following the team’s 1-0 edge over Quality Distributors in Week 2 play Monday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

With both teams matching up on intensity on the pitch, the eventual game-winning goal from Takumi Ito finally separated the sides in the 82nd minute. The teams’ goalkeepers, the Islanders’ Ryan Root and Quality’s Marcus Del Rosario, both had a busy night stopping shots on both sides of the field.

Quality’s loss slips the team down to the third spot in league rankings after Wings Red. The Wings team played its season opener Monday night, defeating the GPSI Southern Cobras 9-1.

Matthew Iseke led all scorers with four goals and teammate Kyle Halehale scored twice. Iseke’s twin brother Mark scored once, as well as Sho Meyar and Edward Cho for the Wings. Dylan Fegurgur scored the Cobras’ lone goal in the 38th minute after intercepting a back pass intended for Wings goalkeeper Kaito Atsuta and shooting into the empty net.

The U18 division continues Monday with Wings FC taking on Quality Distributors at 6 p.m. followed by the Bank of Guam Strykers playing against the ASC Trust Islanders at 8 p.m.

In Saturday’s U15 elite season opener, the ASC Trust Islanders defeated the Bank of Guam Strykers 5-2 with two goals each from Nainoa Norton and Ethan Sablan. Jacob San Agustin scored the Islanders’ other goal. Andrew Stenson scored both goals for the Strykers.

Defending champions Wings Red received a bye in the first week of play.

The U13 elite division also opened Saturday morning. Defending champions ASC Trust Islanders take the early top spot in league rankings following a 5-0 win over the Bank of Guam Strykers. Brock Larsen led all scorers with a pair of goals and teammates Adriel Gutierrez, Peyton Blair, and Sarah Benavente also scored.

Wings FC opened its 2018 season with 3-2 edge over the Guam Shipyard Wolverines. Raif Sablan led all scorers with a pair of goals for the Wings and teammate Paul Webb scored the team’s other goal. Riley Rama and E.J. Manibusan scored for the Wolverines.

Both the U13 and U15 divisions continue Saturday. In the U15 division, Wings Red will take on the Bank of Guam Strykers at 9:30 a.m.

In the U13 division, the ASC Trust Islanders take on Wings Red in a re-match of last season’s championship match at 8 a.m. Bank of Guam Strykers and Guam Shipyard Wolverines will play in the division’s other match, also scheduled to kick off at 8 a.m.
