
24 Jan Wings Begin 2017 U18 Elite Soccer Fall Season With Win
[August 27, 2017 – Harmon, Guam] – Spring 2017 U18 division runner-up Wings Red began its Fall season bid with a 5-2 win over the Tigers in Week 2 play of the Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth Soccer League Saturday night at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.
Although the Tigers outscored their opponent 2-1 in the second half, the team could not overcome a 4-0 halftime deficit.
Takumi Odell led the Wings with two goals and teammates Kyle Halehale, Tyler Presto, and John Anthony Cruz also scored in the win. Donovan Ybanez scored both goals for the Tigers.
In the other U18 match played Saturday night, the ASC Trust Islanders won their second-straight match in their maiden season in the elite league, defeating defending champions Quality Distributors 3-1.
Todd Pangelinan, Brandon Auayan, and Devan Mendiola scored once each for the Islanders. Quality’s goal came on an Islanders own goal.
With the win, the Islanders (2-0) take the top spot in the leaderboard followed by the Bank of Guam Strykers (1-0). Wings Red (1-0) are in third, followed by Quality (0-2) and the Tigers (0-2).
U18 division play continues Sept. 2 with a rematch of the 2017 Spring season championship match between Wings Red and Quality Distributors at 7 p.m. The Bank of Guam Strykers will take on the Islanders in the battle between undefeated teams in the league, also kicking off at 7 p.m.
In the U15 division, the Tigers defeated Community First/Days Inn Dededo Soccer Club 2-0 Saturday morning. Calvin Babauta scored both goals for the Tigers.
Wings Red defeated the Bank of Guam Strykers 16-0 led by Mark Iseke and Eddie Cho, who each scored four times in the contest. Robert Niu finished with a hat trick and teammates Sho Meyar, Noah Mueller, Matt Iseke, Tayler Bonner, and Morgan McKenna scored once each.
In the U13 division also played Saturday morning, Wings Red defeated the Bank of Guam Strykers 2-0 with goals by Riku Meyar and Taiyo Kanekatsu.
Guam Shipyard Wolverines shut out Community First/Days Inn Dededo Soccer Club 3-0 with one goal each from Yamil Ortiz, Tyler Concepcion, and Erwin Manibusan.
