
21 Nov Defending Champions Lady Crushers Continue to Roll
Defending champions Doosan Lady Crushers continue to roll in Week 2 play of the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League with an 8-1 victory over the Paintco Lady Strykers Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.
The Lady Crushers used their speed and passing game to amass a 4-0 lead through to the final minute of the first half before a shot from the Lady Strykers’ Dausha Magalhaes denied a shutout for Lady Crushers keeper Mya Sanchez. Despite giving up the lone goal for the Lady Strykers in the 44th minute, the Lady Crushers continued its scoring barrage in the second half.
Colleen Naden led all scorers with a hat trick for the Lady Crushers and teammate Skyylerblu Johnson chipped in two. Caylani Estoy, Maria Abbey Iriarte, and Ha’ane Taitano also scored in the win. Magalhaes scored her second goal in two matches in the loss.
In just a pair of matches, the Lady Crushers have scored 23 goals and allowed just two. Naden currently leads the league’s Golden Boot race with six goals to her credit, followed by Johnson with five.
In other matches, Melissa Elwell played finisher for the Lady Rovers in the first half by tacking on two goals for the team, but a Lady Rovers own goal and one from Shipyard’s Regina Shiroma in the second half forced a 2-2 draw. Both teams still remain undefeated with one win and one draw in two matches moving into Week 3.
Quality Distributors bounced back from a Week 1 loss with a 5-1 victory over Hyundai. April Talledo and Tianna Sakaba each scored twice for Quality. Quality’s other goal came on a Hyundai own goal in the 32nd minute. Olivia Flores scored for Hyundai.
Women’s soccer action continues Sunday with Guam Shipyard taking on the Doosan Lady Crushers at 5:30 p.m. on United Airlines Field 2 and Lady Rovers facing Hyundai on United Airlines Field 1, also at 5:30 p.m. The Paintco Lady Strykers will take on Quality Distributors at 7:30 p.m. on United Airlines Field 1.
