ND Royals repeat as girls high school soccer champs

[May 22, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] The Notre Dame High School Royals repeated as champions of the IIAAG Girls High School Soccer League with a slim 1-0 win over the George Washington High School Geckos Saturday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

IIAAG Girls High School Soccer League All-Island First-Team midfielder Brianne Leon Guerrero scored the eventual game-winner in the fifth minute, finishing a corner-kick play initiated by Shyann Roberto.

Controversy ensued early in the second half after the Geckos' Autumn Rese Cruz scored the would-be game-tying goal, as match referees made the decision to call off her goal as one of her teammates was deemed offside on a free-kick by Skyylerblu Johnson.

Royals to play Geckos for 2017 girls high school title

[May 18, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] The Notre Dame High School Royals will have the chance to earn back-to-back IIAAG Girls High School Soccer League titles when the Talofofo school team takes on the George Washington High School Geckos in the league's championship match Saturday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Royals booked their ticket to the big game against GW after defeated the Simon Sanchez High School Sharks 2-0 in one of two semifinal matches played Wednesday. Underclassmen Hannah Cruz and Shyann Roberto cemented the school's victory with one goal each in the lone shutout of the semifinals.

The Geckos overcame a defensive error in the fourth minute to defeat the Harvest Christian Academy Eagles in the early semifinal match 2-1. Miscommunication on a pass back to GW goalkeeper Tamica Hechanova put the Eagles up 1-0 early, but the Geckos would slowly redeem themselves as the game wore on.

New spectator seating open for Girls HS soccer semis

[May 16, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] Guam Football Association will officially open newly installed spectator seating for fans attending the IIAAG Girls High School Soccer League playoffs at the GFA National Training Center beginning with semifinal matches Wednesday evening.

The Harvest Christian Academy Eagles will take on the George Washington High School Geckos in the first of two semifinal matches Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. Next, the Notre Dame High School Royals will play against the Simon Sanchez High School Sharks at the 7 p.m. kick off slot.

The new seating section, as with other existing seating sections, will be available on a first come, first-served basis.

Panthers deny Geckos preseason title in final PK shootout

[March 19, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] Guam High School Panthers denied the George Washington High School Geckos a second-straight pre-season title, winning a penalty kick shootout in the Guam Football Association Girls High School Soccer Preseason Challenge Cup Saturday at GFA.

The Panthers’ cohesive defensive unit managed to stop the Geckos’ top scorers, Jalana Garcia, Colleen Naden, and Skyylerblu Johnson in regular time, forcing a penalty kick shootout to determine the winner of the sixth-annual event, put on by the GFA Women’s Committee with support from Japan Football Association.

Panthers’ goalkeeper Alleria Putnam was her team’s shootout hero, stopping the Geckos’ final two shooters to set up teammate Aubrey Esteves to close out the match.

Knights top Obispos for 2017 Sugar and Spice festival title

[March 7, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] The St. John’s School Knights topped two-time defending champions Bishop Baumgartner Memorial Catholic School Obispos 1-0 to win the 2017 Guam Football Association Sugar and Spice Middle School Girls Soccer Festival Saturday at GFA.

In the final showdown, interrupted momentarily by an early-evening power outage, the Knights managed to shift momentum in their favor in the closing minutes. With just two minutes left on the match clock, the Knights’ Kaia Malakooti took advantage of a mistimed ball clearance by Obispos defenders and lofted her shot into the upper near post for the eventual game winner.

The 10th annual festival, realized with assistance from FIFA and support from Japan Football Association, featured 11 teams from both the IIAAG Middle School Girls Soccer League and the Interscholastic Middle School Girls Soccer League.
