[March 6, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] Close to 300 girls are set to compete in the 8th Annual Sugar and Spice Girls Middle School Soccer Festival at the Guam Football Association National Training Center Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

“With the participation of 13 total schools – six from the IIAAG Middle School Girls Soccer League and seven from the Interscholastic Middle School Girls Soccer League – this is by far the largest festival we’ve had to date,” said Grace Martinez, overall organizer of the event and Women’s Administrator at GFA. “The event gives the teams an opportunity to play matches against school teams from both leagues and particularly this year, the event will kick off GFA’s weekend celebration of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Football Day. Close to 50 member associations across the continent will be actively participating in girls’ and women’s football events this weekend, which also coincides with International Women’s Day, set for March 8 every year.”

JFK crowned as IIAAG Boys HS Soccer League champions

The John F. Kennedy High School Islanders saved their gold game kits for a gold finish in the IIAAG Boys High School Soccer League championship match at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

After being denied in last year's final, the Islanders savored their championship win, a 2-0 victory over regular season league leaders Harvest Christian Academy. Sora Recella scored for the Islanders in the 26th minute, following up on a shot initially stopped by Harvest goalkeeper Sean Evans.

Four minutes later, Agustin Choi intercepted a pass from Harvest's back line, sending the ball to captain Phillip Ogo, who took a long-distance strike that found the back of the net for the 2-0 advantage.

Southern completes three-peat in girls soccer

It's three for Southern High School.

The Dolphins completed a three peat in the IIAAG Girls High School Soccer League with a 1-0 win over the Guam High School Panthers in the playoff final at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Great defense from both sides thwarted almost every attack in the entire match with the exception of one lone goal by April Talledo on a goalmouth scramble following a corner kick in the 75th minute. April Talledo found some space near the left post and blasted her shot high over the outstretched arms of Guam High keeper Gesualda Gonzalez and into the goal for the eventual game winner.

Guam High made its first finals appearance since 2011, when the team took the championship against the Notre Dame Royals that year. Since then, the Dolphins have dominated girls soccer, with two-time MVP Paige Surber leading Southern to titles in 2012 and 2013. Paige Surber now also has one championship title under her belt as a coach.
