GFA donates 350 Adidas balls to Guam schools

[September 25, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] GFA recently donated 350 soccer balls to the island's middle and high schools in a presentation ceremony on Sept. 24.

Matao captain Jason Cunliffe, with GFA Executive Director Cheri Stewart, organized the donation and presented the soccer balls to school representatives present at the ceremony.

The soccer balls, Adidas Conext15 Glider balls, are the replicas of match balls used at the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, in addition to other major FIFA tournaments held earlier this year.

Simon Sanchez Sharks win girls high school soccer crown

[May 26, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] The Simon Sanchez High School Sharks put on a championship-caliber performance in the final match of the IIAAG Girls High School Soccer League playoffs, upending No. 2 Notre Dame Royals 1-0 at the Guam Football Association National Training Center Tuesday evening.

The Sharks took advantage of miscues from the Notre Dame defensive line to find pathways to the goal and were rewarded in the 35th minute following a foul called in the box against ND. Sharks senior Maria Abbey Iriarte knocked in the eventual game winner, opting to go for the left side in the ensuing penalty kick opportunity.

Royals return to final with semi win over GW

[May 23, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] After missing out on the finals of the IIAAG Girls High School Soccer League last year, the Royals are back in the championship match after edging the George Washington High School Geckos 1-0 in a semifinal match at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Royals' Destiny Castro relieved her team's scoring drought in the 51st minute, after racing to a loose ball from a free kick play that drew out GW keeper Samantha Quinata and taking a shot over three GW defenders near the goal for the contest's lone score. Moments later, the Royals looked to make it a 2-0 contest off a penalty kick opportunity, but Quinata managed to block Paris "Mames" Blas' shot to keep her team within one.

Sharks defeat three-time champs Dolphins in semis

[May 23, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] A new champion will be crowned in the IIAAG Girls High School Soccer League with the exit of three-time champion Southern High School in the semifinals against the Simon Sanchez High School Sharks Saturday morning at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Sharks upset the top-ranked Dolphins with a 3-0 penalty kick shootout score in the first of two semifinal matches. The Sharks will next face the winner of the other semifinal match between the Notre Dame High School Royals and the George Washington High School Geckos. The Royals-Geckos semifinal match up will be played at 6:30 p.m. at GFA.

Sharks win girls high school soccer preseason tourney

[March 20, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] The Simon Sanchez High School Sharks showed their high cards early, winning the championship match of the Guam Football Association 4th Annual Challenge Cup Girls High School Soccer Preseason Tournament at the GFA National Training Center Thursday.

The Sharks defeated the Harvest Christian Academy Eagles 3-0 in the tournament's final, with two goals from Skyylerblu Johnson and one from Ha'ane Taitano. In an awards ceremony following the championship match, the Sharks were presented the championship trophy by GFA Executive Committee member Tina Esteves and the Eagles received the tournament's runner-up trophy. The Guam High School Panthers earned the consolation bracket winners trophy.
