Mangilao SC Wildcats, Team Metgot win Christmas Cup
[December 12, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] The Mangilao Soccer Club Wildcats and Team Metgot garnered championship honors in the U14 and U17 divisions, respectively, in the first-ever Guam Football Association Christmas Cup Girls 3v3 Tournament Saturday and Sunday at the GFA National Training Center.
In the U17 division, Team Metgot, made up of youth national team players Brianne Leon Guerrero, Jenna Han, Hannah Cruz, and Abigail San Gil defeated the Mangilao Soccer Club Titans 12-7 for the championship title. Jenna Han led all scorers with four goals and teammates Hannah Cruz and Brianne Leon Guerrero finished with hat tricks. Abigail San Gil scored Metgot's other two goals. Y'lisiah Jorda, Aurianna "Roben" Morellano, and Kamrie Heflin each scored twice for the Titans. Jackie Cabusi scored the Titans' other goal. Alyssa Dumlao also played for the Titans.
Girls, coaches enjoy FIFA Live Your Goals festival
[July 24, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] Over 100 players, coaches, and parents enjoyed the first FIFA Live Your Goals festival in Guam in 2016 held at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.
The players engaged in a circuit of soccer-related activities that promoted health, camaraderie, and teamwork for the first hour of the festival and later, applied skills learned from the activity stations in small sided games, all coordinated by coaches participating in the FIFA Women's Coaching Course facilitated by FIFA instructor Belinda Wilson from Australia.
The coaches worked with Guam youth national coach Sam San Gil in overseeing activity stations. The festival is one of three planned for the year for girls. Each participant received a complimentary FIFA Adidas T-shirt during the festival. Cleats in assorted sizes also were available to participants at the festival while supplies lasted.
Girls invited to FIFA Live Your Goals Festival at GFA
[July 21, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] All girls ages seven to 15 years old are invited to attend Guam’s FIFA Live Your Goals Festival at the Guam Football Association National Training Center Saturday beginning at 4 p.m.
The all-girls soccer event will feature an hour of skills and activity stations organized by national coach Sam San Gil and an additional hour of small-sided matches. Visiting FIFA instructor Belinda Wilson from Australia, along with coaches participating in the FIFA Women’s Coaching Course, will be assisting San Gil.
“This event is a great opportunity for girls not only to learn new skills and to play soccer, but to meet new friends this summer,” said Grace Martinez, GFA Women’s Administrator.
ASC Trust Islanders win U14 girls final, Octoberfest tournament
[October 29, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] The ASC Trust Islanders U14 Girls team was crowned champion of both the Guam Football Association & The Score’s “Just Kick It” All Girls League U14 division and the Marianas Octoberfest U15 Girls Soccer Tournament, held jointly at the GFA National Training Center Wednesday evening.
The Islanders nearly squandered a 4-1 halftime lead against defending champions Guam Shipyard Wolverines, but managed to keep afloat with the eventual game-winning, second-half strike by 11-year-old Jadyn Palomares in the 5-4 contest. Tiffani Lopez scored twice and teammates Riley Guzman and Jenna Han also scored for the Islanders.
Vanessa Cruz scored twice for the Wolverines and teammates Samantha Fegurgur and Samantha Kenney also scored in the championship match.
All-Girls league kicks off in five age divisions
[September 29, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] The 2015 Fall season of the Guam Football Association & The Score's "Just Kick It" All-Girls League officially opened Sept. 27 with matches in five age divisions after lightning on halted the league's original opening matches the previous week at the GFA National Training Center.
In the competitive divisions, the Geckos narrowly defeated Community First/Days Inn Dededo Soccer Club 2-1 in the U17 division with goals from Sawyer Park and Kaysha Leon Guerrero. Dededo prevented a Geckos clean sheet on a free kick from Mellanne Rasmussen. Referee Christina Gonzalez deemed the shot a goal after the Geckos goalkeeper handled the ball past the goal line.
