Matao enjoy rest day before Turkmenistan clash

[October 9, 2015 - Doha, Qatar] After a grueling couple of days on the training ground the Matao had a day off on Friday where they visited some local tourist attractions in the Qatari capital.

While those who needed treatment spent the morning with the side’s medical staff getting looked at, in the afternoon the entire squad traveled to one of Doha's main cultural sights, Souq Waqif, a market district full of local goods and products.

The players wandered around the sprawling market complex picking up some souvenirs for those back home before preparations for the Turkmenistan clash ramp up again tomorrow.

Matao ramp up Turkmenistan preparations

[October 8, 2015 - Doha, Qatar] Guam went from the classroom to the training ground in Qatar today as preparations are now in full swing for next week's FIFA World Cup qualification match with Turkmenistan.

The afternoon was spent in a series of meetings going over the style that Guam wants to employ next Tuesday before hitting the Al Wakrah stadium in the early evening to put those ideas into practice, with the results delighting the side's coach, Gary White.

"Yesterday we did a real physical session so today was more about working on our shape and it was really pleasing for me to see the players take on board what we did in the theory meeting and take those ideas from the blackboard to being reality on the pitch."

Birthday celebration, light session for Matao in Qatar

[October 8, 2015 - Doha, Qatar] For the Matao, Wednesday was a day of both hard work and a little celebration.

One of the side's longest-serving members, striker Ian Mariano, turned 25 and the whole squad made sure they marked the occasion with a hearty rendition of 'Happy Birthday' and some chocolate cake – which the bulk of the playing group stayed well clear of.

Earlier in the day the team had the opportunity to visit some local sights in the Qatari capital before they were put through their most taxing training session thus far.
