Matao GK Jaye to play pro with FC Cincinnati

[Harmon, Guam - February 19, 2016] Matao goalkeeper Dallas Jaye continues to enjoy the fruits of his labor after signing with professional soccer club FC Cincinnati for the upcoming USL season, set to kick off next month.

Jaye, who officially signed with the club Feb. 15, currently is one of three goalkeepers on FC Cincinnati’s roster for its inaugural season. The USL is the third tier of the U.S. soccer league system behind the MLS and NASL.

“Playing soccer at the professional level was always my dream,” Jaye said via E-mail. “Ever since I hopped in goal at age seven, I never looked back. I used to go to San Jose Earthquakes games with my youth teams and watch the pros play, and I wondered if I could reach that point. I used to daydream in school about playing in stadiums with big crowds and against the best players.


Guam goalkeeper Dallas Jaye makes 2016 MLS SuperDraft

[January 15, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] Guam Matao goalkeeper Dallas Jaye was named to the eligible player listing of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft according to the MLS official Web site.

The MLS Web site states, "Every year, MLS teams are required to submit a list of players they may be interested in drafting. Add those players to a group of seven underclassmen signed to Generation adidas contracts and five players based overseas, and you have 250 players eligible for the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, beginning at 1 pm ET on Thursday with Round 1 and Round 2 streaming live on The SuperDraft concludes with Round 3 and Round 4 on Tuesday, Jan. 19."


Matao's Naputi to take next step to pro soccer with VC Fusion

[January 5, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] For Malojloj resident and Matao wing back Dylan Naputi, 2016 will be the year he takes the next step to realize his childhood dream – playing soccer professionally – when he suits up for VC Fusion in Ventura, Calif. in March.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity – since playing soccer in my youth league days, my dream was to play soccer professionally,” Naputi said. “It has taken years of being committed to development in the sport – never giving up and striving to be better each time I get on the field – to get where I am today. Playing in international matches with the Matao under head coach Gary White and alongside professional players has helped me grow as a player technically and tactically, as well as on and off the field.


Matao makes top PDN sports story for second-straight year

[December 27, 2015 - Hagåtña, Guam] The Matao's yearlong success was named the Pacific Daily News' top sports story for the second straight year.

In 2015, the team achieved its highest ranking to date - No. 146 in the world - follow back-to-back victories over Turkmenistan and India and a scoreless draw with Oman in the team's 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Joint Preliminary Qualification Round 2 campaign.

Matao to play in final WCQ Round 2 match in Oman

[November 22, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] The final stop in the Matao's 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Joint Preliminary Qualification Round 2 will be in Oman on March 24, 2016. After seven matches, Guam's record stands at 2-4-1, fourth-ranked in Asia's Group D behind I.R. Iran, Oman, and Turkmenistan.

I.R. Iran, Asia's top-ranked country, handed the Matao its first-ever defeat at home in the pair's fixture at the Guam Football Association National Training Center on Nov. 17. Both teams were hampered in the second half with red-card violations, with the visiting team taking full advantage of the 20 minutes played with Guam down one man in the contest.
