Guam FA ink partnership with Macron for national teams

[September 1, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] Beginning this month, Guam’s national teams will officially be outfitted in match and training kits by Macron, following the signing of a three-year partnership naming the Bologna, Italy-based sports apparel and equipment company its “Official Technical Kit Supplier”.

“We are very excited with this new partnership with Macron to outfit our national teams,” said Tino San Gil, Guam Football Association President. “For a large, emerging high-quality international brand to support Guam, this is telling of the consistent progress we’ve made in football and the goals we still have yet to achieve that continues to attract positive attention internationally.”

The Matao will debut its new kits at the EAFF E-1 Football Championship Preliminary Competition Round 1 in Mongolia Sunday when the team takes on the Northern Mariana Islands and on Monday, the Masakåda will play against Macau in its new Macron kits.


15 called up to Men's National Training Camp in Calif.

[March 17, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] Guam Men's National Team Head Coach Karl Dodd has called up 15 players for a Matao training camp set to begin in San Diego, Calif. Monday.

“We are using this camp to evaluate the players off-island and to implement the new professional standards and playing style to those players,” Dodd said. “Through the camp, we will be able to assess players playing in intercollegiate and professional leagues in the United States. For every tournament, we want to call up the best players available to produce the best results for Guam.”

The training camp will officially begin Monday, Mar. 19 through to Tuesday, Mar. 27 with friendly matches against San Diego State University and L.A. Galaxy II on Mar. 23 and Mar. 27, respectively.


Australia's Dodd appointed Matao Head Coach starting 2018

[December 26, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] Guam Football Association officially announces the appointment of Australia’s Karl Dodd to the Head Coach position of the Matao, Guam men’s national team, beginning Jan. 18.

Dodd, most recently the High Performance Manager for the Brisbane Roar in Australia’s Hyundai A-League, the country’s top professional league, brings with him a wealth of professional playing experience and coaching, as well as expertise in athletic strength and conditioning.


Matao Asian Cup campaign officially ends with withdrawal

[December 29, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] The Matao officially completed its campaign in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Qualifiers after recently receiving a letter from AFC confirming Guam’s decision to pull out of the continental tournament.

Primarily due to the foreseeable strain on the organization’s financial capabilities, Guam Football Association submitted its intention to pull out of the next round of the tournament’s qualification stage, set to begin in 2017 through to 2018, following a decision by executives and board members in a recent meeting.

“It is with a heavy heart that after deliberation among executives and board members that we have to pull out of the continent’s prestigious tournament at this stage,” said Richard K. Lai, GFA President.


Matao aim for win in final EAFF tourney fixture Saturday

[November 11, 2016 - Hong Kong] The Matao, Guam men’s national football team, won’t accept anything less than a full three points from regional rival Chinese Taipei in the sides’ final fixture of the EAFF E-1 Football Championship Round 2 Hong Kong set for Saturday at Mong Kok Stadium.

As it stands, Guam has the edge over Chinese Taipei in the tournament’s standings after Day 2 matches based on goal differential, with Guam’s narrow 3-2 loss to Hong Kong on opening day of the men’s competition and a heartbreaking 2-0 loss to DPR Korea Wednesday evening, the smallest scoring margin between the two sides to date.
