The Venue Slay captures Spring 2018 W2 championship

[June 11, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] The Venue Slay capped its undefeated season in the W2 Division of the Bud Light Women's Soccer League with the Spring 2018 championship title, defeated The Venue Sidekicks 1-0 in the league final Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Venue Slay banked on an own goal by The Venue Sidekicks in the 15th minute off a corner kick play for the championship, as both teams' defenses fortified for the remainder of the match.

In the short awards ceremony following the championship match, The Venue Slay's Brianna Benito honored with the Spring 2018 Golden Boot award, earned by scoring 16 goals in six matches for the season. Teammate Tamera Shimizu picked up Golden Glove and Championship Match MVP honors.

Quarterfinal fixtures set for Jamaican Grill 11th GFA Cup

[June 12, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] Quarterfinal fixtures are set for the Jamaican Grill 11th Annual GFA Cup following first-round matches played over the weekend at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Budweiser Soccer League Premier Division champions NAPA Rovers secured a spot in the quarterfinals with a 7-0 shutout of the Bank of Guam Strykers Masters Saturday evening. Captain Mark Chargualaf led all scorers with a hat trick and teammate Fook Liao scored twice. Bryan Cadiz and Gustavo Pro scored the Rovers’ other goals.

The Rovers’ next opponent is Bank of Guam Strykers B, 6-0 winners over the Sidekicks SC. Micah Hennegan led all scorers with a hat trick and Joshua Miller scored twice. Jeremy Copple scored Strykers B’s other goal.

Atsuta, Meyar to take part in youth event at FIFA World Cup

[June 7, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] Guam’s Raito Atsuta and Riku Meyar will be among the multitude of football fans from around the world flocking to Moscow, Russia to witness the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Atsuta and Meyar will be taking part in Gazprom’s Football for Friendship program, an international children’s social program spearheaded by the FIFA partner. The pair, the first from Guam to take part in this global program, will be in Moscow for a week engaging with youth representatives from all of FIFA’s 211 member nations in various activities, including a trip to Luzhniki Stadium to watch the tournament’s opening match between Russia and Saudi Arabia.

“I can’t wait to go to Russia, I’ve been counting down the days,” said Atsuta, who plays for the Wings FC in the U13 division of the Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League. “In addition to soccer, I want to see famous places and things they have there and also to meet people.”

Matao works with Make A Wish to grant child's wish

[June 13, 2015 - Tamuning, Guam] Matao head coach Gary White, captain Jason Cunliffe, and teammates Ryan Guy and A.J. DeLaGarza took some time off from their training camp to visit Miguel Rosario, a patient in Guam Memorial Hospital's Pediatric ICU, who will be leaving Guam to the Philippines for surgery due to complications from a congenital heart disease.

The surprise visit was coordinated by Make-A-Wish Foundation - Guam Chapter, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening diseases. MAWF Executive Director Victor Camacho was on hand for the presentation, along with Ray Haddock from the Orange Crushers FC, GMH nurses, and Rosario's parents Michael and Annie.
