Youth enjoy Triple J league opener despite rainy weather

[September 13, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] Intermittent rain showers couldn’t stop thousands of youth soccer players from playing in their opening matches of the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League Fall 2015 at the Guam Football Association National Training Center Saturday.

“I actually liked it when it rained during my game – it was a lot cooler,” said Quality Distributors FC’s Kai Miranda.

Miranda and the Quality Distributors FC U12A team notched a win against the Tigers in the team’s opening match. Miranda, playing in her first-ever soccer league match, scored once in the win and teammates Jett Taitano, Isaiah Masga, and Xander Yano also scored. Miranda decided to join soccer for the first time after watching her mother, Joy, play in the Docomo Pacific GFA Soccer Moms League earlier in the year.

“The best part about my first match was scoring a goal for my team – it’s hard to really explain the feeling,” Miranda said. “I felt excited after scoring the goal and it also made me feel like I could score more.”

In other U12A matches, the Guam Shipyard Wolverines defeated Tsunami Flood 1-0 with a goal off a corner kick by Kaden Slack. Tumon Typhoons SC defeated the Sidekick SC 4-2 with goals from Raechel Santa Maria, EJ Cruz, Kyle Gogue and a Sidekick SC own goal. Avri Lallatin and Taeya Jean Babauta scored for the Sidekick SC. The Crushers FC edged the Strykers 2-1 with goals from brother Nate Morgan and Hayden Morgan, both assisted by Bobby Haddock. Bryan Nakamine scored for the Strykers. The ASC Trust Islanders Betde defeated Wings Black 6-0 with two goals each from Jason Palomares and EJ Sablan. Jadyn Palomares and Mason Sanchez also scored in the win. The Wings Red defeated Community First/Days Inn Dededo SC with goals from Nainoa Norton, Justin Joseph, Taiyo Kanekatsu, and Andrew Kilgore.

In the U17A division, the Wolverines defeated the Sidekick SC 4-0 with two goals each from Jestin Escobar and Zackery Olmstead. Quality Distributors FC edged the Islanders Betde 3-2 with two goals from James Jeong and one from Jason Kim. Noah Duenas and Cameron Miles scored for the Islanders.

In the U14A division, Dededo defeated the Wolverines 5-3 with a hat trick from Diether Messner and two from Christian Kido. Brianne Leon Guerrero, Chloe Salas, and Jaemie Manglona scored for the Wolverines. The Southern Cobras forced a 1-1 draw with the Sidekick SC. Anthony Aguon scored for the Cobras and Adryan Lujan scored for the Sidekick SC. In the late match, the Islanders Betde prevailed over a shorthanded Tigers team 5-1. Joshua Bamba scored twice and teammates Shawn Sablan, Javian “Chun” Cruz, and Brennan Finona also scored. Seung Min Kim scored for the Tigers.
