Perez, Halili, and Healy recognized by Academy coaches

[June 28, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] Beau Perez, Jodee Halili, and Shane Healy were recently recognized by United Airlines Guam Football Association National Academy directors and staff as the program’s Players and Coach of the Cycle, respectively, for the first cycle of 2016 with awards presented by Jamaican Grill.

“Beau is one of our youngest outstanding players in our National Academy Program,” said Academy coach Shane Healy. “He is very quick to learn new skills and he is only adding to his arsenal of natural talent. Physically strong and balanced, Beau compliments his playing style with a great coachable attitude.”

Perez currently plays for the Sidekick SC in the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League and is an incoming fourth-grader at San Vicente Catholic School.

Exchange between GFA and Saitama City, Japan likely

[June 3, 2016 - Saitama City, Japan] In an effort to further strengthen Guam’s football development and cultural education through football, Guam Football Association President Richard K. Lai recently met with Hayato Shimizu, mayor of Saitama City, Japan to negotiate an athletic and cultural exchange program.

“We had a very constructive meeting in Saitama City and soon, players from both Saitama City and Guam will be able to participate in exchange programs,” Lai said. “The overall vision of the exchange program is to provide opportunities for football development, while providing educational and cultural opportunities, as well. Youth from both Guam and Saitama City will benefit from the program and we hope that those who participate will develop lifelong friendships based on their common passion for the sport of football.

Thompson, Yatar, Kerr earn Academy players/coach honors

[January 6, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] David Thompson, Ayden Yatar, and William Kerr were recently recognized by Guam Football Association National Academy directors and staff as the United Airlines National Academy Players and Coach of the Cycle, respectively, for the program’s final cycle of 2015 with awards presented by Jamaican Grill.

“After David spent three cycles training with our United Airlines GFA National Goalkeeping Academy, coach Joe (Laanan) and I decided it would be best to let him train with the field players to help develop his overall game sense,” said Dominic Gadia, Academy director. “David has demonstrated an ability to understand and recognize the demands of the game. This last cycle of training has only bettered him as a footballer. The modern goalkeeper is evolving into a very technical field player/goalkeeper. David is one of our Academy players with the skill traits of a football and second skill set, goalkeeping.”

Academy coaches to hold tryouts for 2016 girls division

[February 4, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] Guam Football Association coaches will be looking for the next group of girls to be selected for entry in the 2016 United Airlines GFA National Academy in girls’ division tryouts scheduled to begin Friday.

“This is a great opportunity for our young girls looking to play soccer at higher levels and develop into future stars of the GFA,” said Gary J. White, GFA Technical Director. “With the program entering its fifth year, we’re seeing more of the inaugural group of players continue to stand out in the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League and interscholastic leagues, as well as earn spots on Guam’s youth national teams.

“Elite-environment training at a young age will benefit Guam’s athletes in the long run, especially when the players become eligible for college scholarships and international duty,” White added.

Over 150 graduate from 2015 elite academy program

[November 24, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] Over 150 elite youth soccer athletes completed the requirements of the 2015 United Airlines Guam Football Association National Academy and received certificates of achievement during a ceremony at the GFA National Training Center Monday.

Academy directors will be holding open tryouts beginning Dec. 1 for youth soccer athletes, both returnees and new players, for the 2016 program.

Available tryout dates for the boys division are 6 p.m. on Dec. 1 or Dec. 2 for the U9 and U10 age groups, followed by 6 p.m. Dec. 3 or Dec. 4 for the U11 and U12 age groups. Available tryout dates for the goalkeepers division are 6 p.m. Dec. 1 or Dec. 2 for both boys and girls in the U9 and U10 age divisions, followed by Dec. 3 or Dec. 4 for both boys and girls in the U11 and U12 age divisions.
